| 'too big!' 'too small!' dumb people? ok. so it actually really fascinates me how many people post about the size of yorkies and it's interesting to me that 'a lot' of people think small yorkie owners are stupid. first of all, i wonder what a small yorkie is since they are all pretty small, but i would guess under 3lbs? under 4lbs? a lot of people are annoyed because some people make comments about how yorkies are supposed to be tiny? honestly, i think it's just lack of proper info. and education on the breed. the only people that tend to heavily advertise yorkies are the ones that advertise them as 'teacups', i had no idea that 'teacup' was a bad way to address tiny yorkies prior to joining this forum. so for all the yorkie owners who have proper sized yorkies, i am sorry people make stupid remarks, they are just ignorant, not dumb. ...so ignorant that i was told the other day that milu was a big doggie, because she is bigger than that person's 6 week old puppy...(milu is under 3 lbs. and one year old) it's ok, i forgive her. it's not her fault that she doesn't know doggies 'grow' ....... ok, maybe some people are just kind of dumb...

| Teacup? Teapot? Crockpot? Crackpot? I was bummed out the other day when I was out on a walk and a woman looked at my Yorkie and told me he wasn't a REAL Yorkie cause he was too big and that I spent a lot of money for a mix. He's 8 lbs and 6 months old. Being new at this "Yorkie" thing - I called my vet and asked is this possible? Did I get ripped off? He laughed at me and said they come in all sizes and as a matter of fact - the original Yorkies back in the 1800's weighed more like 15 pounds. I felt better and took my teapot out for another walk hoping to drop a tootsie roll on her lawn. |

So it's not just people with average to large size Yorkies that are criticized, I'm getting ALOT of critical remarks from people about Missy's small size. You just can't please everyone! What annoys me more is being criticized for dressing her up, doing her hair, and homecooking for her. I think that I'm just taking good care of her. All pets should be treated so well.

the only time i question an owner if her yorkie was a true yorkie was because her yorkie was very large, and had a long muzzle, which i have never seen on a yorkie before. so i asked her if it was a yorkie mix. i am sure she was probably secretly annoyed with me for that question. but she was very nice and told me that although it's large, it's still a yorkie. (i probably should have told her i asked because of the muzzle, not because of size. but i didn't want to be more annoying than i already was )

I have never understood why people get so into other people's business. If you don't want to dress up your dog or cook for it then don't but don't criticize people that do. Maybe it's because it makes them feel bad for not doing the same for their dogs?? I don't know... I don't get it!

| The only bad comment I ever got was that Chachi was probably a silky rather than a yorkie because of his size. That was by a groomer. Oh and one time when we were at a festival some women said she has the bigger type of yorkies. Jewels is only 6 lbs and I dont think she is big. Anyway I agree its just uneducated people

| I think sometimes people need to keep their negative opinions to themselves. If they don't know what a true yorkie is, then they shouldn't say ANYTHING!

i think people hear bits and pieces of info. here and there, and generalize it and apply it to any situation they want to. yes, there are info out there about not dressing dogs up because it's bad (but that was about large dogs with undercoat) and yes, there are info. out there about unhealthy tiny yorkies. but not all tiny yorkies are unhealthy! although it does scare me alot since people constantly say that small yorkies are unhealthy. so it makes me worry about my yorkie. but i did my research, and milu's parents were both about 5lbs. so i hope everything is ok. but, it does make me worry when people constantly talk about how tiny yorkies are unhealthy. anyways, i hate it when people say rude/stupid things. why they have to open their mouth and ruin someone's day, i have no idea.

| Goodness sakes... Your baby is under 3lbs, and she's either too small to be a yorkie? HUH? too big to be a yorkie? JUst can't win I do tend to agree it is about ignorance . they simply have no idea what they are talking about.

i would think temperment or at least coat or something would be more of a focus than size. but size is definitely most people focus!
