| Help Choosing Baby/Puppy Gates! I have never had a baby or puppy before, so I am clueless! I will have 5 weeks off work after bringing my puppy home to get her settled in. After that I will be gone about 7-8 hours Monday-Friday for work. I don't want to keep her crated or in a small bathroom/laundry room for all that time. So until she's fully trained I figured I will keep her in the large kitchen/nook area with vinyl flooring. It's also the most convenient because I will be training her to go to the back door when she needs to go out, and it is in that area. To keep her in that area I will need 2 gates. My doorways are just about 42", and a lot of the gates I've seen go UP TO 42". Will they fit or would they be easily pushed down? I was looking at another that goes to 50" wide, and that might be nice because I could use it for a different part of the kitchen to keep her away if I'm cooking. Also, I know yorkies can jump quite a bit. How high should it be so she can't jump over it? Now she's just a puppy, but I'd rather get a gate that'll work when she's grown too. Is wood or plastic better? Here are a couple of the lower cost ones I found online. If anyone has used them or has input please share! Or if you know where I can get a better one! My little Shadow Donating YT Member | Congratulations on getting yr new little one!! They give so much Love back.....your heart will be stolen!! As babies though, you have to watch them so carefully. So, I wanted to warn you about keeping in kitchen with gates. This is what we do as well. But, when she was a puppy, she had the "chewing" phase & chewed the corners of a couple of cabinets. Glad to report, she has outgrown that now......thank goodness!! Just wanted you to be aware. They really don't require that much room when they are puppies. Personally, I think a crate or exercise pen while you are gone would be best until your baby is older. They are worth all the worry, I promise. I don't have any gates like you posted, but really like the last one. It's the one my daughter is thinking about getting. The ones I have are no longer available, unfortunately. I'm not sure if a puppy could get out through the rails on the last one, though?? Hope you update with pics of your new little one!!

| That's a good point, and I do have a nice size wire crate also. However I think I still want the gates for the time I am here, but can't keep a close eye on her. I have a brand new house with lots of brand new carpet. I know to expect accidents, and I got the "standard" carpet because I'm sure I'll be replacing it down the line. I will bring her on the carpet when I'm with her and have a pad nearby, but don't want her confined to a small crate too much.

| Yup that's her. I know there are a bunch of Bailey's on here, but that happened to be the name that fit her!
