| How to help puppy sleep through the night?? So I just got my baby puppy this weekend in other words i expect her to wake up at night an cry wanting to go poty and everthing that is totally normal. But i was wondering if there is any advice what can help them sleep better or even got o bed at night...last night it was so late and she was just to playfull and didnt want to go to bed and i was pretty tired... also last night she started to cry a about 2am and it was so so loud but she didnt need to pee since she did it on her pee pad but i had to give her the attention she wanted since i live in a basement suite and was affraid she would wake up the people living upstairs... I know people have told me before to wrap a hot bottle of water in her kennel with her so she feels like there is someone there with her?? any other ideas or advice anything i can do to make her sleepy??

| can she see you from where she sleeps? Dogs are pack animals and she just came from being with her mom and her little mates to being alone- so it is important she can see you sleeping from where she is. I put Layla on a small table. |

YT Addict | I also put my 10 week old puppy beside my bed in a crate and then on a chair I can see her and she can see me. Sometimes she wakes and then cries I just put my hand on the crate door and she smells me and then lays right back down and goes back to sleep. They just like to know your close. Hope that helps. |

| Try leaving a radio on or the television for her. This way she will think someone is in there with her. I would play with her for awhile before bed time also |

| as far as the puppy being wide awake at 2am what we had to do with both our puppies (we got them at different times) is keep them awake 2 hours before we went to bed. What I had noticed was when I got home around 6 they wanted to play and then would fall asleep around 8 or 9 and then when I put them in their xpen they would stay asleep but get up in the middle of the night wanting to play. What we did was let them play when we got home, if they fell asleep early we let them sleep for a little while but would get them up at 8.30 or 9 and keep them up until we went to bed. sometimes it was hard because they really wanted to sleep but we just played with them on the floor and this helped them to sleep a little longer at night and we avoided the 2am playtime.

| The only way that I won this battle with my Missy is by letting her sleep with me. She has slept right through the night every night since. Maybe what others are suggesting will work for you, bring her in your room. Even if you bring her whole crate in and set it on your end table or something. She just needs to see you and know that you are there with her.

| My 12 week old sleeps with me, either in his kennel or next to my side. When I first got him, a bought a mattress cover in case he had an accident, because I have been through this two time before. When he had his first couple of accidents I put him into the kennel, and just closed the door, did not lock it. Now he has gotten the hang of it and when we wake up, which mind you is still at the butt-crack of dawn, we go to the potty pad first thing and he pees. Have only had him since Valentines day, but he seems to be getting the hang of it. Also, like the others said, I keep him up playing for at least 2 hours before I go to bed. Good luck! |

YT 2000 Club Member | Time and patience and your pup will eventually learn to sleep all night. Tucker was around 3 months old when he started sleeping thru the night. I put his crate next to my bed and put a big stuff duck in there with him and that seemed to help.

| my guys are all older and know what bedtime is now, but ever since they were puppies we have always had a hardcore play session before bed. We tug and yank and throw toys around. we chase each other and growl and bark. Yes, I do all that with them. haha It wears them out and by the time I'm ready to lay down and sleep, they want to rest too! You might also try going for a good 15-20 minute walk right before bedtime. That was always another option if my guys didn't seem interested in playing at the time. Petco/Petsmart also carry these little bean buddies that you put in the microwave for a few seconds. They're very comforting for puppies. I still use mine to this day for my guys when they get in their carseat for a trip or in their crates in the winter. Some specialty doggie boutiques might also have the toys that have a heartbeat like their mother. I'm racking my brain, but that's the best I've got right now. If she's in a seperate room, you can always try the TV/radio. But if she's in the same room, try everything else. Also, IGNORE HER! I know it sounds mean. Of course when their brand new and very little they might have to go potty in the middle of the night, but if you'll start to ignore her when she starts up then she will eventually stop. Giving her attention every single time she cries is a bad habit to start. Good luck!

| When I got my puppy we put him in the crate right next to the bed and he was very happy there.. So I agree make sure he/she can see you. My little guy now sleeps near us in the bathroom area with a bed and wee wee pad and the baby gate, ohh and a favorite stuffed toy. He is soo happy to see us from there and he doesn't wine at all. I tell him nite nite time and put him in his bed and he knows its time to sleep. My husband did not do this one night and all he did was play. It was so funny to see an animal want to get tucked in..It was the sweetest thing..Good luck |

YT Addict | I just got my puppy this weekend too and I let him sleep with me. He is quiet all night. A little lick of the ear to tell me he has to pee, but other than that silence! We play really hard before bed though. I would really try that. When he finally goes to sleep he is out for awhile. I keep him up until I am ready for bed... |
