When I got my puppy we put him in the crate right next to the bed and he was very happy there.. So I agree make sure he/she can see you. My little guy now sleeps near us in the bathroom area with a bed and wee wee pad and the baby gate, ohh and a favorite stuffed toy
. He is soo happy to see us from there and he doesn't wine at all. I tell him nite nite time and put him in his bed and he knows its time to sleep. My husband did not do this one night and all he did was play. It was so funny to see an animal want to get tucked in..It was the sweetest thing..Good luck
