| General Patton is Eating Bella's POOP! YorkieTalk Friends, Yesterday, while I was upstairs on my deck, I saw Patton eating Bella's poop(I know gals it is disgusting, sorry ). Shortly after that, Patton began vomiting and pooping the poop he had just had. Then, he was weak the rest of the day, and I gave him a little Nutrical which he usually loves, but not this time, so I gave him some anyway. Later in the evening, he was ready for his supper and ate fine(a Porkie). Then, today the same thing happened. I was downstairs in the yard playing Frisbee with Bella(my Smooth Fox terrier) and I was about twenty feet away from Patton, and saw him eating her poop again. Luckily, I was closeby so he wasn't able to eat much poop, and there was no vomiting or pooping like yesterday. And then again, a short while ago, but this time I knew better than to be twenty feet away, so he didn't get much. So, my question is this: Does Patton have some kind of deficiency that is causing him to do this. I have heard to sprinkle some pineapple on Bella's food and hopefully she will eat it with a little pineapple. I have also been told that a pill called deter helps this problem, but don't know if this is good for a puppy to take. Meanwhile, Patton has a vet's appointment tomorrow and so I will want to see his thoughts on this as well. Please tell me if you know what I can do other than these two suggestions to stop this disgusting habit he seems to be developing. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | blah! I don't have all of the answers for you but I know that Dr. Fosters & Smith offers some type of natural powder that you can sprinkle on the food to get them to stop. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...Np=1&N=0&Nty=1

| txshopper73 has a great idea there, if you have Bitter Apple spray, you can try to spray the poop as well for now and hope the General will stay away from Bella's poop from now on. If it's any comfort at all, usually they do grow out of the poop eating phase! |

| Thanks for those suggestions. I will order that from Foster's & Smith soon. It's funny cause I just got a large shipment from them but for my saltwater fish supplies. In the meantime, where can I get this bitter apple to spray on the poop? Thanks!!!!

| You can get Bitter Apple in all the major Pet Stores here in Fl. but if you have the time to put it on, you could probably just pick up the poop and get rid of it beforehand. Just a thought. |

| Yikes!!! No puppy kisses frow General Patton for awhile, huh. Lily doesn't have access to any other dog poo but she sure likes kitty crunchies. She always finds where the outside cats have gone and 'cleans up' after them. She got in the litter box the other day and when I caught her she was trying to not look guilty but had litter all over her mouth. ewwww

Good thought. I was thinking that might work. I just have to make sure when Patton runs behind Bella down to the yard, I follow behind(If I can catch up with them). I am going to order that product from Foster's. Thanks gals. Good input

| Sampson was eating Gracie's poop and we bought DETER at Petsmart. After three days of giving it to Gracie, Sampson stopped eating her poop. Worked for us.

| YorkieTalk Friends, Just an update. First of all, I wanted to thank each of you who took the time to respond to my request for information. I wanted to tell you that General Patton saw the vet today for his scheduled appointment. By the way, it was his first appointment with a new vet and I was impressed. The vet spent approximately 40 minutes with me, and Patton was so comfortable with him he even slept on the table(no shots, just a physical exam). Patton is now 6.9 lbs(a Porkie indeed, lol). Anyway, he suggested a couple of other things besides what you had graciously mentioned. He also suggested I get a water bottle that can squirt long distance, and to keep it handy and squirt Patton as he is getting ready to eat the POOP (sorry gals). The other suggestion he made was to create a loud noise(suggested some device I can get at a boat shop), but I think I am going to try a training clicker instead. The third other suggestion he made was to shock him(he said these are very mild) and said I could use them for a couple of days and Patton would stop after just a few minor shocks. I wasn't too keen on this suggestion, but will keep it in mind if other suggestions don't work. I think I will try the water bottle first and keep it handy near the yard, and if that doesn't work try the training clicker. Or, just pick up Bella's poop would be simpler it seems. But any how, I am sharing because some of these will work easier for some of us than for others depending on our schedules, and situations. Again, thanks for your kind suggestions. Will keep you posted.

I read that it is because the food hasn't digested completely and to feed him pineapple so that the enzymes in the pineapple help digest the dog food and then the poop isn't so tasty any more... (After all these guys do sniff butts, right! UGH!!!) I also read that you can sprinkle hot sauce on the doodies so that they won't try to eat them. Yeah, right! Like that'll happen! I have 4 dogs!!! I'll look like Emeril out in the yard with a giant sized Texas Pete bottle! LOL I'll be buying some DETER instead!!! Thanks, Inovack

| Is there anything missing from the diet? What type of food are you feeding.I have read that if there is something missing from the diet, they will do that!

| Hi Katy, I have almost transitioned Patton(about 90%) from the Pedigree to the Canidae. I've done it real slowly, like in the last three weeks. The vet didn't think it was a vitamin deficiency, but said it would be alright to give him a Vitamin Supplement. All suggestions are welcome Maria
