| Hi, new mom as well.. Well as far as the treats you can start as long as u supervise while he or she eats, the bathing, I hear from my vet depends from weekly to once a month if is mainly indoors then u want to do it every two weeks to once a month, outdoors is a diferent story ones a week is fine. I'm also learning, my baby girl is 10 wks old and has kennel cough so i been in and out of the vet with her...Good Luck! Chloe's momma. |

| If you Google "Consumer Affairs Nutro", I'm sure you will see enough to make you want to switch immediately. This food is being blamed on illness and death in many dogs. If you spend some time in the health and diet section, you should find lists and more lists of acceptable treats. I bathe only when Ellie gets dirty or I feel like it. Bathing often can deplete natural oils, so I would only do it more than once a week if necessary.

First get him off the Nutro. That food has been linked to dozens of dog deaths. Some others to try....nature's variety, wellness, taste of the wild, and candiea. Just find a high quality food. Don't give too many different type treats at this stage. You'll wanna know if any you've given causes a tummy upset. At 14 weeks...I did offer mine bully sticks. Bathing is something he'll have to get used to...or never will. All of mine are bathed regularly...and my oldest will still shake. She hates the bath. They all hate the blow dryer too. In the winter unless mine get into something or are really dirty...baths are once or twice a month. Excerise is good for puppy. A tired puppy is a good puppy. You may want to play something other than chase...but only because you are teaching him to run from you. There will come a time...where you want him to come to you instead of running. Until he comes to you readily whenever you call...I wouldn't play chase. Try playing fetch or something along those lines...he still gets to run and will be eager to return to you. You'll know when he's reached his limit...he'll conk out. Ears...trim any excess hair from the edge of his ears. Shave a 1/3 of the way down front and back. Sometimes the weight of their hair pulls their ears down. You didn't ask..but start brushing puppy every day. Get a pin brush and brush while watching tv at night. Puppy fur usually mats easily and you'll want to prevent matting. A badly matted baby will need to be shaved. Brushing him daily gets him used to it...in the beginning he may not be too keen on brushing. Now is also the time to start trimming nails. Just take a wee bit off the end of his nails. Again...this is a chore you want him to get used to. Good luck! New puppies are so fun! Btw, what's puppy's name?

Kennel cough sounds like a dry hacking cough and ends with the dog making a gagging noise as if they are going to throw up.

| I'm a new mommy as well and had the same questions. I've gotten so many great tips from here already. I gave my Chanel a bath for the first time and she was not happy. She was shaking until completely dry. Dryer was no fun either. I don't know if it was the heat or the noise but she kept trying to run away. Someone just said to brush the puppy everyday. I read on several websites and a book I bought that I should not brush her dry coat. I bought Perfect Coat Detangling Grooming spray to help brush her when not wet.

| Yes .. when you first get them home you get worried about every little grunt or snort they give you But they are resilient little guys If they are eating well and playing and they poop and pee ok There isn't anything to worry about Play.... they'll tell you when they've had enuf Food ... if it's a good puppy food something your Vet says is ok and they eat it? Treats .... for a new puppy give them Nuti-cal or another supplement ears... cut the hair so they aren't weighed down Brush them everyday My guys Love to get brushed.... I say Lets brush the Puppies and they Come Running Just love them and play with them and enjoy them all you can

| I was told when I got Buddy not to bath him, it wash's away all their natural oils, Buddy is 5 months old now and has only had one bath, he also hated it, but he is not smelly, he's a dog, I will only bath him if he has rolled in something horrible, he does get combed alot though. |

| Welcome to YT!! Glad to have you here. You have definitely come to the right place to learn about being a great yorkie owner. There is a lot of good information on nutrition here, toys, grooming ect. I agree on switching your foods - please read some the stickies at the top of the sections. You will also find some good idea for treats - my 2 love Buddy Biscuits from Cloud Star www.cloudstar.com As far as the floppy ears, besides shaving, you may need to tape them & keep in mind some yorkies have floppy ears when they are teething. The pin brush is a great suggestion. I love the Chris Christensen brushes. Also, I recommend a bottle of Buddy Splash from Cloud Star - amazing stuff to get tangles out (they also have great shampoo, conditioner)

| Dry Hacking cough, sounds like they might throw up. If you suspect Kennel cough take him to your vet. They will put your puppy on Antibodotics. It takes about three weeks to go completely away. But your puppy will be as good as new. |
