| shampoo? and brushing teeth Hey everyone, What type of shampoo is everyone using for their yorkies? I use a tearless dog shampoo on her head and a conditioning dog shampoo on the rest of her body. I recently used Pantene deep conditioner afterwards to help with the brushing. IT WAS AMAZING HOW SILKY AND DETANGLED HER HAIR BECAME!! The Pantene also helps prevent matting until next washing. Anyone know if it's bad to use a conditioner on her that's made for us humans? Also, any suggestions on tooth brushing? |

| Shampoo and brushing teeth I'd like some info on this as well. I use a tearless on the head and have been using Dawn on her body. I have been having a problem with fleas. Since I felt the Dawn might be harsh on her hair, I, too, have used my conditioner on her. It is amazing how GREAT it makes her hair look. Toothpaste.....I went and bought "doggie toothpaste," in the flavor of poultry. It doesn't work. LuLu HATES it. I am doing my best to try to get her accustomed to it....but I'm not having much luck. I would appreciate any suggestions.

| I use Fresh n Clean by, I believe, Lambert Kay. Several people here use Pantene. I used to and stopped and haven't really noticed a difference. I brush their teeth with Petzlife. I use a q-tip.

| I have tried several shampoos, and right now I'm using Pet Silk. I love it! No matting, no tangles, my boys' hair is very shiny and soft. It also smells really good! The only thing I've heard about using human shampoos/conditioners on dogs is that their Ph is different than ours. But, I have used Aussie Three Minute Miracle on mine and love it. As for teeth brushing, I found that using a fingertip toothbrush works best because my boys don't seem to mind my finger in their mouth, but they HATE toothbrushes. I have been using PetzLife Oral Care Gel, followed by the spray for quite some time now, and it works great! They didn't like it at first, but they are used to it now and don't mind as much. I use it on them every night right before bed. My vet says their teeth are amazing. I also give them a good brushing once a week with a fingertip toothbrush and doggie toothpaste.

| I just started using Bath & Body works Moonlight path shampoo and then the deep conditioner. I also use Aveda Smooth infusion. I just washed her this monday...and her hair is still very straight and neat... it's very shiny. That was my first try. I used to use my poodle's shampo... some babypowder scent and that was fine...but this is amazing! I have ordered pet head---I'm going to see if that works. But I guess what's the point when this is working? I'll save that for my poos.

| It would be a good idea if there was a tooth brush out there that the dog could chew on. Maybe something conical that had bristles on all sides. You could hold the brush as the dog was chewing on it. I haven't seen any yet. Some of the different kinds of brushes are always too big. Thats why I can't use the finger cot one. I guess I'll just keep on trying...... |

| For shampoo I use John Paul's Pet for sensitive skin, it has oatmeal and aloe in it, and I also use John Pauls detangling spray when I brush them out. I can't say enough about how amazing it works!! I've used sooo many shampoos on Duke to try to help his dry skin and nothing was working. Lucie's hair was getting really bad tangles in it all the time. The shampoo and conditioning spray make their hair so silky soft and knot free. I found it at a local beauty supply store for $10, but I think John Paul has a website for it too if you can't find it in a store.

Rope toys are good for them to chew on, and they also help remove tarter. Mine like those alot. I just make sure the strings at the ends aren't the looser kind that can be chewed off easily. I replace them often to prevent that because I don't want them swallowing the strings.

| I was using Earthbath natural pet shampoo , I liked it at first but now I don't think it makes her coat look as good as it did in the beginning , so I am on the hunt for new shampoo and conditioner. Just a side note but Pantene is awful on human hair . I'm not sure what it would do to a dog , but it contains a wax that coats your hair ( thats what gives it the smooth shine ) but it eventually starts to break it down from the inside and can result in damage and even hair loss. Just thought I would throw that out there Anyway I have heard about CC products on here , so I may try that next

| I use C.E.T. vanilla mint toothpaste for dogs and I get their toothbrushes at the vet. The toothbrush has a smaller size on one end and a larger size on the other end which is great for me cuz I use the small end for my Yorkie and the larger end for my westie. They love the vanilla mint flavor too. As for the shampoo, I am using an aloe and oameal shampoo and John Paul Pet creme rinse. it works well for me but it seems like her coat is kind of dull. maybe I need to use a finishing spray? Also I just started using Welactin omega 3 supplement to see if that helps her coat condition any. I feed them EVO small bites and give them some nutrical . I think what they are fed contributes greatly to what condition their coat is in. |

| be aware of possible danger, dogs can die from licking/eatin conditioner on their fur i read this on another forum when i was googling to see if our conditioner is safe for our babies. i found this...take a look and just be aware of possible danger. Most conditioners are cationic detergents. My best friends' show cocker DIED painfully by licking & eating some of his fur. The conditioner (wella balsam) ate his stomach-- actually tiny unrepairable holes until it pretty much dissolved. Everything was tried to save him, including blood transfusions. At first they thought he had been poisoned. Later my vet wrote this up in a vet medical journal, & eventually it saved a dog's life in Chattanooga --because the vet was able to identify the cause in time. Most conditioners (yes, even natural ones- remember arsenic is natural) work by attaching to the hair with that + and - system you should have learned in HS chemistry class. Cationic means t is a +. It coats the hair, which is a -, so they bind together. Since most people & most dogs don't lick or ingest their hair, no harm is done at all. It doesn't not harm the skin-- however, it does destroy the stomach and intestines if ingested in large enough qualities. Haint, the cocker, had been rinsed, dried and all that. He ate residue on his hair not the bottle or anything. Apparently some conditioners taste good-- dogs are attracted to anything fatty, oily, nutritious, or sweet. Some ingredients include various oils (avocado, coconut, waxes, etc). Many have sweet smelling fragrances. Some have food ingredients-- orange, lemon, melon, jojoba bean extract, vanilla, proteins, etc. Dog thinks tasty. Obviously, not many dogs have died from this. But do question whether if is worth the risk, before conditioning your dog. And do find about about the chemical properties of that particular conditioner. Just being a "dog conditioner" does not make it safe in case of ingestion!

| I saw it too. It would be great!!! But I think it's too big for my yorkie's mouth. I know they have two sizes but even the small one looks too big. |
