| Dinnertime Question OK so I feel really guilty when I am eating and bailey is growling down below for me to throw her a bite of my dinner, like I am teasing her or leaving her out or something. So I usually end up locking her upstairs in my room until dinner/lunch/breakfast is over and I feel so sad for her being locked away but I am not crazy about feeding her a lot of people food and it is really annoying when she paws at me constantly and begs. I try demanding for her to sit or go lay down but she only continues to growl and paw. Now I am thinking I made a terrible mistake for ever giving her little nibbles of what I was eating. Do you do this too or what can I do to get her to stop begging? I throw her a treat but obviously I can't give her too many, and giving her toys doesn't distract her either. She is serious about wanting my plate.

| I never feed any of my dogs from the table so they never begged. I feed Buddy first, a no no I know but that is what I do. After feeding him I sit down and eat. He leaves the kitchen and lays down on the living room rug while I eat. Never bother's me at all. Breakfast is the same. However, when I have company what does this stinker do? Begs from other's. I have to continually chase him away |

| I think its in any dog's nature to beg and whine and plead and paw to get table food!!! My husband and I haven't given Wall-E any table food whatsoever minus a raw baby carrot one time (which he licked a couple times and eventually left alone), but he still begs and whines at dinnertime!!! So yeah- I think you're ok. As soon as any dog smells yummy dinner food- they go bonkers. My husband wants to start putting Wall-E in his pen while we eat dinner cuz he's tired of being pawed and jumped on and barked at while we're trying to enjoy our dinner.... but I told him to give Wall-E a chance and see if he'll learn not to beg. we'll see though... |

| You can try getting up, walking into her and saying "back". That it what Victoria Stilwell (It's Me or the Dog) does. You'll have to stop feeding her from the table altogether though.

| Yep, Bailey is a begger too! And yes, I do sneak her a bite or two now and again. We allow her to sit and watch us (we just ignore her) - but she is not to whine, bark or get aggressive. In the beginning she was aggresive at dinner time - so one squirt with the water bottle and that immediately stopped. The whinning was constant - and again the water bottle did the trick. Now, if she gets whinney at dinner time (which, to be honest I can't remember the last time) we just reach for the bottle and she knows!

| Duke begs constantly because my parents would never listen to me when I told them not to feed him table food. My dad refused to listen and fed him anything from chocolate to steak, candy, whatever you can think of...Now he begs no matter what, we tried breaking him of it, sending him away from us while eating but it went on for so long that he wont stop. Lucie doesn't get any table food, and I let her out while we are eating, she may try to sniff something here and there but she doesn't beg at all. If you stop now from giving table food, you can probably nip it in the butt. But stick to it, they are smart and if you give in from time to time they wont forget it.
