Mamma's gonna work - But What about Baby Hi Everyone, I must say its great to be part of this Forum, ghee I am just sorry I didnt find this a long time ago! I didnt update my baby's profile yet, but will soon. In short "Cheeky" is almost 1 yr old, at 6 weeks I got her the end of August '07 when I stopped working. Meaning that she is with Mamma almost the entire time. Now there is a possibility that I am going to start working again and I am very sad to leave her all by herself at home I dont know what to do??? We've got 2 other dogs at the back of the yard, a full breed Rodveiler and a Shnauzer, but we really cant trust them with Cheeky, cause they were here before her and dont really appreciate sharing the attention. So I cant leave her with them during the day! I live in South Africa, in a small town, otherwise I would have started a "play group" for yorkies as a sideline bussiness just for Cheeky, but I am afraid wont work here! What do you guys think, is she going to just "fade away" when Mamma is gone the entire day? Or would she get use to it???? I also thought of maybe get Cheeky a sister, maybe that would be easier for her, if she has her own company??? The only thing is, when we go on summer vacation, the cost per dog in a Yorkie Motel is approx $10 per day now, so it would cost us approx $480 for the 2 of them for a holiday! Ahhhh I just dont know what to do, maybe some of you were in the same sittuation than me before and give me a guideline? Looking forward hearing from you

i know that taking your puppy to a day care or what not can definately add up and i'm not a huge fan of it. i only have one dog and yes, he does have to stay at home from 9-3pm back when i was living with my parents. what we did was that we just left him. it was hard because he'd be barking and what not. but it eventually stopped. he realized that we're not abandoning him and we're just gone for few hours and we'll be back. make sure he has place to pee &/or poo and lots of water and food for your puppy to nibble on. this also helps if your puppy has established its "safe" spot. and your puppy is perfect age because its not too young. one y/o is good age to be left alone for few hours. its not like your going on a week long vacation. good luck

Your dog will be fine when your at work and on vacation. Plenty of dogs stay alone while their owners are at work and in kennels while they are on vacation and they do just fine. I love Yorkie talk but the owners here do tend to be extreme in their opinions...no offense to anyone, but I think if you asked the average dog owner theres no doubt they would say your dog will be fine. No doubt, if there was another dog to keep him company, it would be better but if you cant afford it, you cant. I work full time and have always had dogs. I have never had to put my dogs in kennels for vacations, but usually leave them with friends, but if I had to I would. Please dont think I dont worry about my dogs...I think about them alot on vacation and if I owned a vacation home (ha, ha), I would always bring them with me. Otherwise its not practical and would definitely , make vacation alot harder to bring them, even if I could find a hotel that accepted dogs.. Right now, I have 3 of them and they are lots of work and high maintenance so I need a vacation from them. Good luck with your decision.

| My husband and I both work full time jobs. I work 3pm-12am tues-sat and hubby has a rotating shift, sometimes 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm or 11pm-7am. Only once in awhile do they have to stay home for 8hrs alone. When we go on vacation they go to grandma's they love it. And my mom will bring Abby to my house when she goes on vacation. We only live 2 blocks away from each other.

Hi Everyone, and thank you very much for your reply LovenmyYorkie hi - I would love to find one, but in SA at about 90% of the sites its again health regulations to allow pets and the few that do allow pets, is not really up to standard to us "Humans" a pitty! Jennzy and Tiger hi - Yip thats also true, but we're gona leave every day for 8 hours Cinnamonmon hi - its true lots of Yorkie parents think their pets are 2 fragile and I do realise that these doggies are actually very tough ones. She moves in and out the house all day and even try her luck hunting birds outside, true Terrier instinct, real cheeeeeeky dog! Problem being, shes sleeping in the house at night and stay in the house when we're gone for short periods during the day, so Cheeky cant even go to the kennels on Vacations, because the kennels here, just got a brick shelter at the back of the wire cage, no closed kennels like in a building, thats gona be to cold for her I wont also mind letting Cheeky stay at home during the day if shes got a friend keeping her busy, I guess I feel guilty because the 2 dogs at the back got each other and Cheeky would be all by herself lol oke youve got 3 of them, ye think that would keep you kinda busy Melanie hi - yap thats one of my idees to, then we will have 4 dogs, I forgot the other 2's kennel fees holiday time, all 4 would add up to approx $1000 for our vacation it is more than what we pay for our accomodation! lol aaaaah what we all wont do for our pets hey Have a great day all and thanx for the chat
