| breeder mad at me So,i've had Leo since feb 9th and he was doing great.I took him for his 15week shots and the Vet suggested to do the Bortadella too. Now my breeder told me not to get this shot at all because she had a couple that took their yorkie and got the Bortadella shot and the puppy got very sick. We deceided to go ahead and have the vet give him the shot,it was through the nose.He was fine after the shots. On friday he had loose stool and his stomach was making noises, didnt eat that morning.I talked to the vet and she told me to drop of the stool sample and give him a quarter of the pepcid ac tablet.I did that,he ate all his food later on and was fine and full of energy.I emailed the breeder and asked her what could be wrong with leo and i told her about the Bortadella.OMG,she was so mad about that shot. She emailed me back saying that she warned me about the shot and so on.. anyway Leo's results came back on sat and the vet told me he had a mild case of hookworms and that he just needs the deworming medicine which was one pill. She told me he got the hookworms from when his mother was nursing him.He is doing good now.But i was just shocked the way the breeder was reacting to the bortadella shot. ANy of your yorkies had this shot done?why are so many ppl against it im just happy Leo is ok |

| all mine get the Bordatella before they leave and if one does happen to leave before they get it, I tell the new parents to get it right away. I've never had a problem and wouldn't be without. i also use the Nasal variety. |

| When they do it up the nose, it isn't a shot, it's liquid..that's what the vet I use does...the bordatella doesn't hurt them at all, and I wouldn't worry about that breeder...not all dogs are born with worms, my puppys mom didn't have worms, and these pups didn't have worms..maybe this breeder should worry more about her mother dogs...sounds like you're doing well with your puppy..let what she said go in one ear and out the other! |

| The shot can actually give them kennel cough which can give them pneumonia. I hate the vaccine but I don't think it is one of the more dangerous ones either. Now lepto is dangerous...

| I'm not sure if we had the shot done. I think it's crazy that your breeder was so mad at you. You were following the advice of your vet and unless she is also a vet she needs to stay out of it. On the flip side of that, if she had a negative experience with the shot, I can understand her fear. However that was yours and your vet's decision, not hers. I'm glad your pup is okay now |

| Honestly, I don't think that the breeder should have been rude to you at all! Obviously, you are doing what your vet has recommended and you wanted to follow his medical advice. Sounds like you are a great new owner. Seems like your baby had an upset tummy because of the worms. Tammy |

| Both mine had the bordatello. They were given the shot form that takes 2 shots given at intervals. They had no problems at all and I will continue to have the vet give it to them.

| Both of mine get their Bordatello nasal sprays every year at their physicals when they also get their heartworm blood test and fecal tests. A lot of groomers required dogs to have the Bordatello and even dog parks, day camps and boarding places. Basically, if your dog is going to be around other dogs at all it's a good idea.

| my 2 cents worth Don't let the breeder tell you how to care for your pup when your vet advises otherwise - yah i know , i give all my new parents instructions etc too but always advise them to listen to their vet and use good common sense- after all we are breeders -not licensed vets - Now all that being said , i have known of a couple of puppies to have a problem after getting the internasal vaccine BUT just because 2 out of hundreds has a reaction is no reason to not do it. I personally would not take a dog out of my house if it hadn't had its bordatella. This infection that they could get ( kennel cough ) is a upper respitory infection that can lead to pneumonia and is very contagious. It is why most all groomers and vets or other places that board require you show proof of your dog having had its vaccine ( either nasally or injected ) There is lots more i could say about this but this is long enough

| my breeder doesn't give her puppies the bordatella shots, but she didn't tell me not to do it... my vet gave Kash the bordatella shot in the left shoulder. apparently, it's pretty painful... he screamed for like 15 seconds straight... and then he was fatigued for the rest of the day. but the next day, he was back to normal. my vet said "bordatella" is the fancy name for the kennel cough shot. because on my invoice, it said kennel cough, and when i asked what that was, they said it was the fee for the bordatella shot. anyway, Kash is fine after those shots. and i'm pretty sure he got the lepto shot too. he's doing great.
