| weight..breeder frustration! okay. so when i got pheobe the breeder said she would be 4-5lbs. i wanted her to be a bit on the larger side so if i did decide to breed her, i wouldnt have to worry about her being to small. anywho...now, shes only 6 months old and already 6 lbs!!!! well about an ounce or two under.shes gained almost 2 lbs in a month and a half. i dont mind her being big at all...id love her just the same if she was 12 lbs! its just that now im worried about her going over the breed standard. i dont want to breed her if she ends up being to big... cuz that defeats the purpose. so this really sucks. ill admit, i was pretty much letting her free feed, and MAYBE thats part of the cause. but i highly doubt it. she doesnt seem to be overweight to me. ive put her on a feeding schedule and am feeding her twice daily. im just frusterated with the breeder, i know its only a guess, but can she be selling yorkies and give akc registration and breeding rights if the dog ends up being over the breed standard? and when i called her to talk to her about it, just to maybe get some insight on what to do, she didnt try to help, she told me that we could work something out and she could possibly give me a different pup but i would have to pay all shippung charges. i was SO MAD!! i dont WANT A DIFFERENT DOG!!! i just couldnt beleive how she didnt even want to talk about anything with me. i pretty much just had to vent.. i dont really know what to do either..i guess only time will tell.. but on top of all that.. i have some new pictures of my gorgeous little girl and theres a few of her out on a walk with her two big brothers and me.enjoy!!! ** oh btw, i did her grooming myself..for the first time.. i think i trimmed the ears wrong or something... and her topknot thing..i just kinda winged it. but if you have any suggestions..feel free to shout em out at me!!! the first one is her.. " what the... you wake me up to take my picture??" face. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...oO0/pix036.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...oO0/pix038.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...oO0/pix044.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...oO0/pix054.jpg

| Yes, any off standard Yorkie is allowed to be bred. It is the same as any Yorkie that hasn't had their bile acids checked can be bred or hasn't had their knees checked... AKC doesn't require the dog to be standard, but it would be nice if they did.

| She's a pretty little girl, congrats. Breeders can NEVER accurately predict weight...it's simply a guess. Dogs almost never do what you think they're going to...they do what they WANT to. Most breeders have something to that effect in their contract. You just never know. It's actually VERY generous that the breeder would allow you to switch dogs at this point. Of course, 6 lbs at 6 months doesn't mean she'll be beyond the standard. As long as she's 7 lbs and under she's fine. Usually small breeds are 90% or more of their size by 6 months...but please DON'T QUOTE ME ON THAT! Last edited by EmrldShdwQueen; 02-20-2008 at 01:51 PM. |

| It is said that the bitches stop to grow sooner than the males. That the females stop the growth when they start to go in their first heat. My female did grow alot until 6 months, she did grow very little from that time and is a perfect medium size here. But she is heavyer than the stadard sais but she has a compact heavy body shape so that is why she is over the standard weight but the judges don't mind since she is a good size. So don't worry too much if she gets over 7lbs. Also, it is possible to breed from a bitch that is rather big (not too big though) if you/your breeder chooses the right dog (line breeding). I would think that your girl is almost fully grown now. |

I groom my dogs but I'm not a pro so someone correct me if I'm wrong. She is very pretty. I love the last photo. She looks like she is practicing her ballet moves.

| My breeder told me to expect Pixie to be no more than 3.5-4lbs. She's nearly 9 months old and just a bit under 3lbs....I would like her to be a bit bigger really, a breeder can only give you a guesstimate...Pixie's breeder could tell she was only going to be a little one from fairly early on...probably because she has been showing/breeding for 45+ years..she knows what to look for. Your little girl is a darling...love the snow pics!

| first off, omg she is GORGEOUS! Those eyes! I love her! second off - is that a German short haired pointer? I had one growing up, his name was taylor. Sadly he was only with us for about 7 years before he developed brain cancer I LOVED that dog and that breed is just awesome! third - you dont really know how big a pup will get ever or when they will stop growing. I think the breeder just sounded like she was willing to work with you if you REALLY wanted another pup that fit the 'standard' for breeding. Its kind of out of her hands as to how big your pup will get. Oh yeah, my boys were 6.2lbs and 4.2lbs when they were 15 months old. Both within the standard, but by 18months old they were 8.5lbs and 5.5lbs. So they both had a growth spurt late and no breeder would have been able to predict that! I think its so nice to hear that you are willing to accept that you won't be able to breed her and are more than ok with that. She will offer you so much joy in so many ways!

| She's beautiful. I just wanted to add that my Kalina is just under 6# and has been that weight since she was 6 months. She stopped growing at 6 months and hasn't gained an ounce since. Your dog is adorable.

| thanks for the tip on the ears! i think i did it right at first. and then after loking her over i trimmed more off and i think that was my mistake.. its so hard to know what to cut and what not to cut.lol. especially when i dont even know what im really going for. if you look in the first picture you can see her feet. im not sure how yorkie feet are usually cut, but i trimmed the fur off all around her feet. but thats because we are in the process of building a house and almost the WHOLE YARD is mud, its is horrible... needless to say, its easier to clean off trimmed feet yes, that is a german shorthair. my boyfriends dad has hunting dogs and he sometimes breeds them. Gauge( the german shorthair) was our "first pick" he was the first pup out and was double the size of all the puppies( my boyfriend wanted a "big" boy). anywho, now while all the other pups are just hitting forty, some at upper thirty lbs.. gauge is a WHOPPING 65 LBS!! hes huge for a shorthair..( only 8 mos. old). it is a great breed though. amazing hunters. he is such a clown too.
