| Greenie aggression? I gave Katia a greenie for the second time yesterday but when we go to take it away or even put a hand close to her while she's enjoying it she growls. She doesn't bite but just growls.I found it funny but my wife(who just started posting as Katia'smommy by the way) was actually scared. She doesn't do this with her food just the greenies. Should we be worried and is there a way to stop this?

| Hmmmm...I know Maximus growl when he is playing with his plush toys he throws them growls at them catches them shakes them around alot and growls...and if I try to grab it during that time he will also growl..BUT I still take it away and say no speak...then after he is quiet I give it back, my bf says I am taking away his instinctual growl and as long as he isn't trying to bite me I should leave him...he also doesn't growl when I touch his food or put my hand in his food bowl..lol..he actually moves aside and stand behind me till I am done doing what I had to do in his bowl (add something or take it away for whatever reason)..don't know if this really helps

| I don't give Greenies anymore. Several dogs have swallowed pieces of the Greenie and its become impacted in their stomachs and the results were fatal. There has been some controversy over this topic and ultimately its each owner's decision...obviously the could swallow anything, but for me personally, I just give them Nylabones and Non-Edible Greenies to be on the safe side. IMO its impossible to be right over them to be 100% certain that they aren't swallowing any whole pieces, so I am just playing it on the safe side.

| Growling with a play toy is okay...that MIGHT be instinctual!! But, growling at their human's hand is NOT a good thing. The first command my pups learn is "DROP IT!!!" and we really work with that. When they drop it, they are given a weensy treat and LOTS of praise. I feel that is the most important command because young puppies should not be outside or in any situation where the "COME!" command needs to be used for the puppy's safety. DROP IT is for their safety. Say you drop a pill or some other object that the puppy must not have. You have to be able to make the puppy safe by using the command. JMO. but I have learned from several years experience with these babies.. |

| I only give Coco greenies when I am literally sitting right there with her. Never while she's alone or in another room. But as far as growling, Coco does what Maximus does, and I discourage her growling by also saying no speak. Gosh Sam you and I were made from the same mommy tree. Katia may just be trying to be playful. Sometimes their growl is playful.

| SEE? We are at their mercy!! These brats have us trained but, frankly, I don't care who trains whom when it comes to safety issues. I opened a new prescription bottle that was full to the top.The container was opaque and I couldn't see how full it was. Several pills fell onto the floor. I immediately started saying "DROP IT!" and I had 7 sweet faces looking at me with a big "?" while I shook out their beds and toys to find the pills. I am sure they were thinking that their mom had lost it but they stayed away til I could collect the pills, praise and treat my babies. I was such a proud mommy!!! |

| When my pups growl at me for trying to take their food or treats. I verbally reassure them after I say a low toned "no" or 2 and take the food.....tell them they are good and return the food....then take it again...and return it....they soon learn that I am the big guns there. Ialso move their food around in their dish while they are eating....I want them to learn not to snap at anyone. They get it pretty fast. Lots of praise with this...and I agree if it is something that I can not give back a small treat in place helps. They have to learn for their own good to release food....it might be something dangerous to them some day |

| Gus got ahold of a beef rib bone one time and would growl in anyone got too close. He took in to his crate and if anyone would even pass to closely he would growl. the kids were too scared to take it away, He really listens to me. All I have to say is DROP IT!!! and he does. But this only works for me.
