Growling with a play toy is okay...that MIGHT be instinctual!! But, growling at their human's hand is NOT a good thing. The first command my pups learn is "DROP IT!!!" and we really work with that. When they drop it, they are given a weensy treat and LOTS of praise. I feel that is the most important command because young puppies should not be outside or in any situation where the "COME!" command needs to be used for the puppy's safety. DROP IT is for their safety. Say you drop a pill or some other object that the puppy must not have. You have to be able to make the puppy safe by using the command. JMO. but I have learned from several years experience with these babies.. |
