| help! he is so scared! Hey! So my baby Baz is 5 mo and 2 pnds now, and we go on walks everyday. But each dog, be it his size, a bit bigger, or huge, scares him to death! He lays flat on his belly with ears down, skidders around or rolls onto his belly and puts a leg up. The thing is, he LOVES people. He will run up to any stranger. So does he need a doggie playmate, or does he just dislike dogs. I am worried to find him a playmate, b/c he doesnt bark AT ALL, and i love this and dont want him to learn bad habits. Is that a danger? hmm... ~chelsea |

| I believe that is a submission trait he is displaying.. My "kids" were that way also.. My oldest son has a Siberian Husky and the Yorkies would always act that way when he came in.. Still do.. But after a few good sniffs they jump up and start playing.. I dont think you have to worry.. But those big dogs you see on walks.. Be very careful... Things happen quickly and you just never know.. I always pick up our Yorkies when Big Dogs come around.. |

| Baz Baz can live a happy life with human companions. I wouldn't let him near stranger dogs or anything bigger at all. Too many deaths lately. Dogs are pack animals, human or animal they don't care..best wishes |

| Hi, yes i think its being submissive aswell, i dont think its that he doesnt like other dogs just that he's a bit worried and is telling them in doggy language that he's not a problem and he's not gonna be any trouble. We have a friend with a german shepherd and Buddy did this when he first met him once he realised this huge dog is a big softy he was fine and now chases him around the garden! I think once he gets used to playing or being around other dogs he'l get a little more confidence.

| Simon does this too! He always rolls over in the submissive position when he meets new dogs regardless of size until he knows they are ok. He really likes other dogs but he has always done this. Then after awhile of this he checks them out and then plays. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I think he's actually SMART - he's letting all the other doggies know he's no threat to them....but always be on the lookout for those dogs who need to be agressive - it only takes ONE second to cause injury or death to our little yorkies - He sounds adorable... and if your Avatar is him - HE IS ADORABLE ! |

| The behavior you discribed is a submissive and probably fear. You have to see things in his prospective. He is only 2lbs! Most dogs are bigger than he is. He doesn't know if they want to be his friend or hurt him or what. So, he lays flat with his belly up and hope they are friendly. Here is a word of caution. You have to be careful when you are walking your dog. You shouldn't allow strange dog to approach him unless he is in your arm. You don't know the other dog well enough to trust it not to bite your dog or possibly kill him. Keep in mind, it can happen in a second and everything will be over. So, PLEASE look out for your dog when you are walking. Better safe than sorry. As for doggy playmate. I think it is a good idea. Go with dogs that are not too much bigger than he is. It will help his confidence and help develop socialization. |
