Size of crate Chewie is about 7.5 pounds and I have him in a crate for up to 10 pounds. He can stand up in the crate but he can't lift his head up, meaning the crate is tall enough for his body but not for him to stand up fully. Do I need a bigger crate? Does he need to be able to stand up straight in his crate? Thanks.

Hi, I have a Chewy also! Sounds like it's time for a new crate, they should be able to fully stand inside it. Happy Shopping!

He needs a crate large enough to stand up comfortably, turn around and lay down in. I'd say he needs a new one.

Crate I have a metal crate. I believe the measurements are something like big enough to turn around but not potty, 4 inches from the top of the head to the top of the crate. Many have a divider that allows puppy to grow so you do not have to buy repeatedly. Since puppies need food and water 24/7, allow for him to sleep but still be able to get to food/water. Some people, esp those who are pee pad training arrange so the door can be left open to eat and potty and then return unharmed to the crate. Others use a playpen. At first they need to go potty very often, all night, so if you are unable to do that, suggest you get an arrangement that allows for travel out of the crate and back again without getting into harm's way or trouble.

| Yes he needs a new one. I don't like plastic crates. The metal cages are much taller, roomy and you can see your dog easily. I would measure your dog then take a tape measure with you when you go to purchase a new crate/cage. (Mya's cage is 15" wide x 24" long x 21" high. She is 12 inches long nose to tail stretched out and 8 inches top of her head to the floor when standing. If she doubles in size I will double the cage size).

crate For me it depends on what you use the crate for...I have various sizes. I like a small one for traveling in the car..to the vets etc. I want them to lay down and not stand up. I like the small Vari-kennel for car travel..they can stand up and move a bit. At home for confining when I am out I perfer a 2x3 with a grid floor.

Wire crates So, if you use a wire type crate do you give them some sort of bedding? See I had a problem crate training Chewie, he would go in his crate (probably due to getting him at a pet store). He doesn't do it anymore but I am just nervous about putting bedding in there and making his space bigger, incase he falls back into old habits. I am looking for a crate Chewie can stay in during the day while I am at work.
