Doea any one have a Yorkie over 1 or 2 years old

that is finally potty trained after being a long rough road.....or that is still not potty trained and loosing their mind like me?

Just curious because mine are 13 months old and 1 years old and still are not trained and I am starting to seriously loose it. I love them so much but I have actually contemplated giving up.

How much do they weigh? The reason I asked is because if they are very small perhaps their bladder can't hold much.
I have been told that Yorkies at times can be very difficult to train. Some never do.
Buddy will be 3 in three weeks but he has been trained since he was 5mos.
It was very time consuming and lots of patience was required and consistency is the key. I took a week off from work when I got him at 14wks and had him out every 1 1/2 hrs daily. Whenever he would drink water I would wait for 10 mins and out we would go. He was crated when I was not home and at night. I would come home at lunch time for another 6weeks to get him out and give him a break from the crate. It paid off because he has a bladder made of steel, however, he is 13lbs so I think the size also helps in bladder control.Also I gave him a tiny piece of liverwurst, per trainer, and used that reward for ONLY potty outside. He looked forward to that treat.
When he was trained I no longer gave him the liverwurst.

Yep, Loki was a pain to house train but he is completely trained. We also went out OFTEN, as often as every 30 mins, until he started to be able to hold it longer. We crate trained and watched him very closely. He is 2 and has been completely trained since he was 1. He was pretty good by 8-10 months. He had some bladder problems (lots of UTI's, wetting in his sleep) but we got the UTI's cleared up and he has been on medicine for the incontinence. I'm so proud of him. It was frustrating but so worth it, since I'm now able to completely trust him.

Everyone is giving good advise. My oldest is 16 months and fully trained, but like some of the others my she is almost 11 pounds so maybe that does make a differance. My little Abbie is 5 months old and will probably be about 5 pounds full grown. She does really well going to the door, but I also keep a potty pad next to the door just in case we don't see her sitting by the door. She won't sit at door long before she will give up and go on the potty pad. I will be curious to see if I have trouble with my smaller yorkie. So far she is behaving like my oldest did.

My best advise is to don't give up. I also used the treat method which worked very well. They are lean treats that only have 1 calorie and have liver in them. My vet suggested these treats. They love love love them.

I'm sorry you are having a hard time with this. You aren't alone! Mine are 2 yrs., and 3 yrs. old and both trained between 6-8 months of age. I am a stay at home mom, so I think it made the consistency easier. Our system was to take them out or on pee pad every hour, without fail. And if they didn't go, wait 10 mins. and out again. If they did good, they got a treat. We did this until they were about 18 mos. old. If I left the house, each would go in their crate.

Yes, it was very time consuming, but well worth it in the end. There were plenty of accidents when they were puppies, but I did notice a change after 6 mos of age and after neutering.

Don't give up - It IS possible to potty train a yorkie!

My Gidget will be two years old in February and does both on her pee pad.
Emilee is 3 years old pees on pad, poos on linoleum in kitchen
Joey will be be 3 in July and wears a belly band and poos on linoleum in bathroom (so no one can see) I don't mind though, I use to, but as long as it's on linoleum...I don't care.

Pippa is 2 and was still having accidents (only during the night) upto about 3 months ago.

Kodak is 2yrs old and still has an accident if you don't get home in time to let him out. He has a pad on the floor which he uses, but I know he doesn't make it to the pad sometimes. It took a minute to get him trained and treats help. I only give treats when he uses it outside or while teaching him commands.

Molly is almost 3 and I trust her about 90% of the time. I have better success if she is not given full access of the house.

Max is 3 and still has accidents. When I'm home. I'll take him out often. And he'll jump up at met to let me know that he needs to go BUT if I don't take him out, he'll go on the floor. He can hold it. He's 11 lbs and will hold it when he's in his crate or a small area but I can't let him and Abbie out in the livingroom unsupervised because he does not hold it then. Even though he's not 100% housebroken, he's still my baby so it doesn't matter--he's here to stay. He wears a bellyband at night when he sleeps with us, just in case Abbie was trained very early--maybe 5-6 months. I trained her to go on a pee pad first but she always wanted to go outside when I would take Max out (which was about every 30 minutes) so eventually she stopped going on the pad and would hold it to go outside. She's 2 years old and 14 lbs.

My little male was harder to train then my girl. He would yrt and lift his leg on the door frame right beside the peepad, and often go to my kitchen trash can and lift there, I put a small bathroom trash can on his peepad off to one size and now he goes there. I do still have some trouble with him trying to lift and mark other places , but only when my females are in heat.

Baby is 3 years old and is potty trained. Around 13 months she started having less accidents. At 18 months she was barking at the back door. It can be done. If I don't hear her or if I wait too long she will pee right there, but thats my fault not hers. So don't worry it can be done. She did have a potty trained toy poodle to show her the ropes though. She copied everything she did and went out with her and saw what she was doing. Good luck!!

My miko is 2 and has accident's also. Is this a yorkie thing?? It's seems from what I hear that Yorkie's tend not to be "fully" trainable. I get a little frustrated also. The only thing that saves him, is that "freakin" cute face he gives me after he's made an accident.
