| outside potty in bad weather for those who outside train their yorkies and other dogs, what do you do in bad weather like rain or snow? do you wipe/towel your furbaby when he/she comes back in? what happens if you have a doggie door? won't they track dirt and debris from the outside into the house? on days like today, where we're expected to have 5 days of non stop rain, i feel like indoor training my puppy isn't bad afterall. just wondering what my options are once i start outdoor training him? |

| Millie Sage goes potty, rain, shine or snow, outside. She did not like the rain in the begining. She just would not go, but we would not go in until she did her business. We found an area that had the most shelter, and we brought our umbrella outside. It was not pleasant, for her or us, but, after a while she she learned to go fast. Get to her business right away and back in the house. Now she will go on her own, if she has to go(we have a doggie door). She even will go out in the snow. The snow was not as bad as training her in the rain. Yes, we do get a towel and dry her off, try to make sure that we get to her before she runs around the house. We have not had to bad of a problem with tracking in mud or anything. We have dark wood floors, so they probably hide a lot. I just never find it to be that big of a problem. I have a rug at the door, both on the outside and inside of the house. I think that helps a lot. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | We have a doggy door. They track stuff in everyday so I sweep everyday, too. Mop every couple of days. It's a pain but it's better than pee/poop in my house.

| Trixie goes outside potty in all types of weather. She doesn't particularly care for rain, so she goes out, potties right away and goes back in really fast. Snow is not so bad... I'll just put a coat on and off we go. I do keep a towel by the door to wipe her down when she goes back inside. And I give her extra baths to clean off the dirt.

I Love Thor Donating Member | Thor used to HATE the rain. He would put up a big fuss. I was persistant, and I too have stood out in the rain, gotten soaked until his does his pee's and poo's. Its just persistance. He still doesn't like the rain, but he will go do his stuff without being dragged out! To clean him off, I used unscented baby wipes if it's really muddy, or just a towel if he's just wet. |

| henry goes out no matter what it's doing outside too. he knows if he doesn't hurry up he's going to be still standing outside in the rain or whatever, so he will just go really fast. we use baby wipes on his feet for when he comes back inside. |

| I am going out of my mind with potty training. My Harley is 7months now. Every time I think he is getting it outside real good. It snows bad or ice rain. He hates it he will run and hide in his crate when I say go outside on those days. I was giving in and letting him go on the pads. which he will do for a couple of days in between going outside, but, then out of the blue like today he went out 2 times this morning and peed, came right in an pooped on the paper. Then not even 1/2 hr later pees on the floor in the living room. He will tell me sometimes if he needs to go out now, like stand by the door, but he never barks to go. He will bark for a treat or water or food or toys but not to go outside. I am fit to be tied. I have been home with him the whole time. My neighbors are laughing at me because I have lived in the snow banks all winter outside with him. He knows what he is doing because he will run into his crate if he pees on the floor. All I have to do is say what did you do Harley and off he goes. This dog is smart as a whip, but so stubborn with this. I cant believe how hard this had been , my sheltie was trained in a month , we had her 15yrs. This dog is my baby , but what do you do when you live somewhere that is cold most of the time. will he ever just get it. |

| you know... for a moment there, i was really hoping someone would tell me they've successfully trained their yorkie to wipe their paws off at the door on a towel or a doormat before coming back into the house. wishful thinking i guess. |

| We take our dogs outside all the time. Today is very windy and we got some more snow. We go out with them all the time and they do their business real quick. We have trained them so that they get cleaned with towels as soon as they come in. They are so good at following the routine. My hubby says our ShihTzu must be the fastest dog at doing his business. The ShihTzu hates the bad weather. |
