| grooming troubles hey guys im having troubles with grooming, my little girls only 6 months and since the beginning shes hated to be brushed or combed, she bites me or the brush every time. I recently cut off all her pretty hair on her body and by her eyes because she was getting so matted and I was afraid of the matt's hurting her. with summer coming i don't mind cutting off her hair but it gets cold here in the winter and id feel better if she had her hair to keep her warm. Shes fine with bath time and getting her nails done its just the brushing, im currently forcing her to go through with it in hopes she learns to like it but it makes me feel bad. any ideas on how to make this experience more enjoyable for her? any advice is very much appreciated, ill try anything im desperate lol . thanks |

What kind of brush do you use? If it pulling on her hair when you are brushing her , it could be hurting her. I use a wooden pin brush , no snagging or pulling at all. You may have to start from the beginning to get her used to the brushing part. Have a few treats handy and just let her see the brush lay the back of the brush on her side then give her a treat just keep practicing this . If she feels comfortable with this try brushing a leg very gently then give her a treat. Just keep working with her till she feels comfortable

| That could be the problem I never tried to introduce the brush to her, I didn't even think that she could be scared of it, I just started brushing and she hated it. Im going to give this a shot thanks so much!! Oh and im using a brush that looks like a wooden pin brush but its not wooden pins there metal pins with little plastic dots at the end. | The pins w/the balls in the end actually cause more damage to the hair. The hair can get snagged in it & it will pull the hair, maybe that's why she doesn't like it? Maximo sells the wooden pin brushes & I sell the Madan pin brushes.

| My dog does not really care to be brushed and it was introduced right away. I decided very early on due to her cottony coat to shave her body and I keep her legs and face long. There are a few others who also have this hair cut, its very easy to maintain, its FREEZING in Massachusetts in the winter but she wears sweaters or fleece PJ's in the winter.

Is there anyway to tell the difference in the coat types like how would I know if kenzi had a cottony coat? I know shes Super soft like a feather which is the best way I can think of to explain her fur. Shes only six months though so maybe this will change. Im not against dressing her though... i mean of course to keep her warm in the winter
