| Puppy Playpen Right now, when we go to work or have to leave him at home Ozzy goes in his crate. The crate is just the right size. He never goes potty in it, and I put in a few chew toys and fill his kong with special treats or wet food w/treats or peanut butter/treats. I have to put him in it because he knows now that when I want him in it we are leaving the house. Once he's in, I open the top and pet him and tell him I love him, etc, so he knows it's not a punishment sort of thing. When we're home the crate is right beside the couch with the door open and I throw treats and toys in there but he only goes in it to drag them out. Anyway, he seems all depressed when he goes in there, although he no longer whines or barks or yelps at all. Soooooo, we ordered him a puppy pen. I'm hoping that the extra room will make him happier. I really want him to LOVE the playpen. Once we have it, how long should it take for him to love it enough to make it his new "crate"? I don't want to just lock him up in it right away, so I'll keep using the regular crate for now, but just want to know ... how will I know when the time is right? Should I get him new toys/treats/bed for that, or should I use the regular stuff? How did you all get your babies to love their playpens???

| I'm curious of this too. But I think he will love the extra roaming and playing space.

| I use the crate and the playpen with Ella. I put her in her crate at night and whenever I leave the house. If I am busy at home and can't direct supervise Ella, then I put her in her playpen. In the beginning, I left the door unzipped and folded open and I put her food and water in there with her bed and toys She goes in and out of it all the time to get toys. When I lock her in there now - she will jump up a few times but calms down quick and will hang out till I let her out. Good luck with yours!!

| I have the play yard...I love it and so does my pups...I'm not a fan of crate training...I just feel like its a jail for them...so I only use them for travel...I really didn't do any thing special to get my pups use to it...Bella and Harley both were only 12 weeks old when I got them, so I had to confine them right away in it, they had no choice..that was there safe place/confinement while I was potty training and couldn't watch them at all times. Ivy Lou was 8 mos old when I got her...I just put them in it...I had a bed/food/water on one end and a potty pad on the other side when they were puppies...they are all potty trained now so I only have beds and toys in there now....but when I started giving the pups some free run of the house I just left the door open...their food/water/bed was still in there so when they wanted a drink or to eat/sleep they just went in on their own...its their safe place "den" so even now if the 2 pups Ivy and Harley who are only 10 mos old, if they get spooked or scared...they run right into their play yard cause they feel safe in there...Bella is almost 3 yrs old...she gets free run of the house at all times now and the pups too...I only confine them now when I have to leave for a few hours...I trust, that they won't potty but I DON'T trust that they won't chew or get into something LOL...I guess really all I did was make their world revolve around that play yard, made it safe and fun for them...they ate, drank, slept & played in that play yard.
