New 7 Month old Yorkie owner..need help! Hi everyone, this is my first post on YorkieTalk and it has been a great resource so I thought I try and post something to get some questions answered. I just got a 7 month old Yorkie who arrived on a plane from Missouri to California. I have had her for a week and overall she seems really timid, she is ok in a crate at night and even travels with me in a doggie bag without a peep. Within this week I noticed that she has a BIG addiction to me, more like separation anxiety. If people are home, she just can't be alone..but when you add me in the picture..she follows me everywhere. Even when walking in a group she will have to wait for me to walk before she does. It's all cute now, but I am worried. She is super friendly and I have tried to socialize her with other dogs..but what is strange is with the bigger dogs she learned to nip at them. I am not sure if this is because I brought her to the dog park and she got nipped by another dog that she learned this. But I notice she will nip at bigger dogs that come my way. Maybe this is jealousy? I also have to leave her about 8 hours during work and from what I read from others it is ok and all they do is "sleep". However, I set up a webcam and she howls and barks a lot. My friends said she is probably traumatized by leaving her breeder at 7 months and then sent on a plane..so now she is attached to me and scared to be left alone. But all said she will get used to it and stop. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome and congratulations. She may just need some time to adjust. You could try leaving her for short periods of time, like 20 -30 minutes and come back and not make a big deal about coming and going. Try doing that as much as possible. I have never had that problem but hopefully people who have will respond with some helpful ideas.

Congratulations on your new baby!! Baxter came to us at 7 weeks old. He has a serious attachment to me. My husband calls him my tick! He is ok when I leave him with my sister but I left him with my mother the other day for 5 minutes and she said he "screamed" the whole time. He is now 16months old. I don't know what to offer about the separation anxiety. I have tried the leaving and coming back. Didn't work. Overall Baxter is a happy little boy. I hope your new baby will adjust soon. Also - 7-9 months old was the worst time I had with Baxter. He went through the terrible 2s then. He is much better now. That may be part of the problem also.

Hey and Welcome to YT. You are her mom and she knows this. I have the same problem with my 8 month old, he thinks he owns me. I have to walk around and ignore him sometimes. Good Luck and send us pics.

Practice Pack Leader Rules Sounds like you have a confused little guy - not sure what his role is in the pack. Mine traveled across the country too and had the same behavior. Someone told me I had to be the pack leader. Google "Pack Leader Rules" and follow them. Worked for me. Also, watching the Dog Whisperer. Good luck
