| Potty Training - There is Hope!! I have had my Yorkie for over 6 months and could not get him potty trained. Well, for the past 2 days, he has not had ANY accidents. It doesn't seem like much, but at least I know that he is starting to get it and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. He is even pottying on command!! I couldn't be happier I am sooo happy and just wanted to share. Thanks for all of the advice. This forum really helped. And for all of you guys who are getting really frustrated, hang in there!!

| The light.... And it truly is like a light switching on. I really don't remember my Maggie (now 4) being much of a problem, and Mollie Kate (RIP) was a bit older...like 5 months when I got her and seemed to have it mastered in about 3 weeks, but my MacKenzie...I was beginning to dispair of her EVER catching on... She hit right around 6 months and WHAM...no more accidents! The crate is clean and dry all night. (Of course she does wake me up at around 3:00 every night to be let out...but at least she's letting me know about it). She's pretty well making it through the day... I think it's just a matter of their little bladders having to grow to a certain capacity for them to learn. (I have very small Yorkies: Maggie is right around 4 pounds and MacKenzie's growth seems stalled at just over 3 pounds). |

| That is sooooo great - yippee! My little Beanie is a hit-n-miss. She often stands outside staring @ me like "huh?", for a half and hour, and then runs back inside and pees on the rug!! I really need to watch her like a hawk! Congratulations to you and good luck to me...

| I am crate training and trying to teach Rocco to only go outside. I think what helped was that I recently quit my job and I have really had the time to devote to taking him outside. Unfortunately, I start my new job in a few weeks and he will be alone all day. I doubt he will be able to hold it all day but at least I know that he understands where to go.

So now that you will be working, will you leave him in the crate all day? Reason i ask is becuase i started crate training about week and half ago. Then stoped since we got hurricane here in miami and was without light. My Chanels gets in lured by treats. Then i praise her. Let her out and praise again. Till now we are at her staying in htere for about 15 minutes. after that she starts crying and barking. I try to not give in. So i leave the room and she is quite. So after like 2 minutes of her being quite. i let her out. So that she doesnt understand that barking means "they'll let me out.".. But i work from 9-5 and i know that for fact 8 hours, specially now that she is starting is too much. How will you do. And i got the smalles Kennel. Since mine is only 5lbs.

| Since I know that Rocco will not be able to hold it for 8 hours while I am at work, I am going to leave him in the laundry room with newspapers at one end for him to go on. He won't #2 but he will #1. Unfortunately, I think this will set him back somewhat. He really is so much better off when someone is home all day with him. But I don't really have any choice. Here is my schedule with him.... 4AM, take Rocco out to potty then right back in crate 7AM, go out for a walk/run - gets his energy out 7:30AM, feed Rocco then put him outside while I get ready for work 8:30AM, put him in laundry room while I am at work 5:30PM, come home and take him right outside to potty Then we have playtime and just hang out until it is time to go to bed 9:30PM, bedtime - he gets put in the crate It took me a LONG time to get a schedule together that works for both of us. Hope this helps!

This is how mine goes. 6:45am, get up take chanel straight outside. She will pee and sometimes poo. then back into bed room to sleep. No crate 8:00am, wake up again, get her food, put food and water in kennel and go take a shower. (about 15 minutes or so) 8:15am, take food tray away, get dressed, walk her outside. For about 10-15 minutes. Either she does her business or not. Goes back inside in room. 8:30am I leave for work and she stays in room with toys and crate open. 5:30pm, get home take her outside, she pees and poops. then run around with her for a bit. And been leash training her (homework from puppy training class) for 15 minutes too. 5:50pm or so, take her back in give her water and food in my room. Leave it out again for 15 minutes. then take away. 6:20 or so, eat dinner, after dinner take her out. She runs around pees and if she has to poo she will too. Then bring her back inside room. Then for about 15 minutes a day, i try to train her doing the exercises they gave us at class. 7:45pm, bring tray again to get water. wait around 30 minutes 8:15pm, walk her again. And let her do her thing. Then its hang around time, keeping a close eye on her if she is running around the house. If not she goes back in the room with me. I try to put her in crate for a while. And when she starts to cry, i leave the room, let her calm down and then take her out. Then do it again and see if she stays in there longer. but my crate training has been going slow. Since like i said, i work from 9-5. But i am going to start to put her in crate at nights to sleep to see how that goes. And if she doesnt bother, well she will be in the crate all night. But we will see how it goes. Thanks for your post.
