Default Edmunds Kennels in Macon, GA

I am considering buying a puppy this summer from Jean and Jim Edmund of Edmunds Kennels in Macon Georgia. If anyone has experience with them and has comments, PLEASE SHARE!!!! I have read so many horror stories about buying puppies from poor breeders. I want to buy from a responsible breeder.

Thanks

Here is their website.

Welcome to YT. Nice to see someone else from PC. I'm not familiar with the Kennel you are looking at but it seems they breed several different types of dogs and that may be a red flag. Good luck in your search.

I read their site and there is more than one red flag. Fist a few breeds too many and they don't know much about the breeds they have. The cockapoo is not a recognized breed as they claim.
The Westie has health problems and their grooming information is all wrong. They require professional grooming at least every two months and bathing once a year is nonsense. One of the most prominent health problems is severe skin allergies. I am sure if you find the National Breed Club for Westies, there would be a lot more info there on the breed regarding health problems.
They haven't commited themselves to saying much of anything about Yorkies at all.
I would keep looking for a breeder that has no more than one or two breeds and knows their breeds thoroughly.

Default In response to buying from Edmund Kennels

I bought my puppy from Edmund Kennels last year (April). I wish I had known that you ought to leave a puppy with its siblings and mom until 12 weeks old. Instead, Jean sold to us when our little pup was only six weeks old. She also mentioned that she had taken her from her mom the week before. The Vet we took Dylan to later was really shocked.

The Vet mentioned that Dylan would not be like a regular Westie, because she would be more bonded because of her young age. It's difficult to tell that.

I suggest checking this site out first: The West Highland White Terrier Club of America www.westieclubamerica.com. They even had a test to check on your fitness as an owner.

But because when we got there we found out that they had Yorkies, and Cockapoos too, so you may be more interested in those breeds, I would still recommend checking out those dogs websites first.

I love our puppy to pieces, but I was concerned when Jean discouraged me from seeing Dylan's mom, told me that the puppy had never walked on grass as well as the lack of groomer info. Which we would find out, they need grooming approximately every six weeks. They also are VERY prone to skin allergies (watch for a lot of licking of feet which discolors their feet too).

I hope this helps, good luck in your search!

Not everyone. I had a wonderful little cockapoo, Chipper, that we lost a year ago come June. I realized that he was a mix, not a "recognized" breed; however, I loved him with all my heart - he was my little boy and I miss him so much. This picture was made the day before he died.

Default Loss doesn't need a breed...

I'm so sorry you lost Chipper, Jody, he sure is adorable.

While it is nice to have a 'breed' so that you know the size, and even somewhat of its temperament, it's not the breed itself that wins our hearts. It's that trust that beams from their eyes, it's their little snuggles when you need them more than they probably do! There is no AKC registry for loss either when they are just too tired or too sick to go on living down here.

I know Chipper must have been happy to have you as his person too!

Thank you so much for your kindness. I agree that with a "breed" you pretty much know what you are going to get. So many people wanted me to breed Chipper because he was such a wonderful, smart little guy, but I knew that I'd never be able to produce another like him, because it was just luck that produced him. We were so blessed. I can feel the kindness in your response and it brought me to tears. The loss is still so fresh. Thank you again.

It's something we all share isn't it? It's been almost four years since I lost my Watson, and the thought of being in that vet's office can send me off even today reading your post. Being folks who love our pets, that loss softens but never goes away, they stay in our hearts when they are stumbly little ones and a bit of us goes with them when they leave.

While I have Dylan, she doesn't replace Watson's goofyness and sloppy kisses, it's just still the delight to have HER kisses now. We're all a bit better for having loved the way we do, and maybe I just hope our beloved pets are a bit better for having been loved by us.

You're so sweet and I'm so glad you're here on this forum. I'm sorry about your Watson...I can tell that you loved him just as much as I loved Chipper. We'll get through it and be stronger and better for having our little guys in our lives.

Default Pets do make us better people

Hi Jody, thanks for the kind words, I still do miss Watson. I thought moving to a new house would make it easier not to keep looking for him outside, but it hasn't really.

I think it does make us better people, especially when we know what kind of heartache awaits and yet we do it anyway. We know that something is missing not to love again, no matter how much we know that it will hurt later. It just make the playing part sweeter while they are here.
