| is there anything i can do? i bought a stud last october, i just found out he has a luxating patella. according to my vet if i bred my pup he would pass that problem to his pups. now i need to get him fixed and work on getting a new stud, a healthy one. i spent 2000 on my male and the breeder knew i was going to use him as a stud. the only way she will reimburse my money is if i give him back to her... i have just become too attached to the little guy. plus what would she do with him, he barely uses his right leg. do you think i should ask for a half refund and i will get a statement from my vet stating his condition? any other ideas? i need help, what are my rights? i didnt get a health guarentee and i could kick myself for that! pleeeeessse help me. |

| Sorry to say that there is not anything you can do if you did not get a contract and a health guarantee. You can ask the breeder to refund half, stating that you will have to have him neutered, but legaly she does not have to do anything. If he is lame, depending on what type of breeder she is, she may have him neutered and sold cheaper, or she may have him put down. If she is someone that just breeds to sell and make money my bet is she will have him put down. That is much cheaper. Please, before you get another one get a contract and make sure there will be a health guarantee. Mine states that if a problem does arise, I will either take the pup back and replace it, or if it is a genetic problem they can keep the pup and I will either help with medical expenses, or give them another pup when available. My puppies are given bile acid tests, and their legs are checked before they are even considered to be sold, but I only breed once a year at most. I breed to produce my own show dogs, so do not sell much. Last edited by admin; 05-22-2005 at 01:24 PM. |

| pup MM has said it all. I would never deal with a breeder who insists on a return of the pup for a refund. They count on you being attached and then they are home free. Small claims court is your best bet. |

| Be careful when buying dog I found myself in the same positions .I bought a male for breeding in S.E.Missouri from a kennel owned by Debbie McCabe named www.delmacyorkies.com . I bought him when he was 5 month old. She assured me he would be a great little breeder for me, there were no problems at all in his lineage. 2 month after I had him he started to have severe seizures. She wanted nothing to do with the dog or me when I called her about it. I spent about 500 dollar getting him straighten out, then gave him away to a good home. Released his papers after they had him fixed. And this woman still breeds the dog that producted this pup. I learned a good lesson, Be every careful when buying a dog get everything in writing. | thanks so much for your input. i appreciate it... and trust me i am being careful, trust me. ive talked to at least 8 breeders on the phone because i thought they seemed legit and i just have trouble trusting them. im on the computer at least 4 hours each day looking and looking for the perfect dog with the perfect breeder... i got my girl from a lady near columbus ohio and she is as close to perfect as you could get... but she only has one stud and therefore i cant get a male from her, i wont inbreed. well anyways thanks everyone.... |
