| kennel question I am not sure if this is the right place to put it or not but here it goes... My question is, I have heard of some breeders that have kennels, which most people advise to stay away from. I read somewhere, can't remember where that if you had a certain number of breeding dogs, you had to have a kennel and have them housed differently. Is this true, and if so, how many breeding dogs can you have before you are required to have a kennel??? I don't really understand this, I have seen some breeder that had kennels and had excellent healthy dogs yet at the same time I don't feel comfortable about the housing situation. Why would they require you to have the dogs housed seperately from your house that you live, eat and sleep in?? So can someone please explain all of this to me?? Thanks to anyone who can answer my question!!!!!

| I'm not sure on the specifics as far as the number of dogs right off top of my head, but I've seen some very nice "kennels" and some very BAD kennels. I have nothing against those who have a kennel, heck I've seen some that are state of the art that put some people's houses to shame, but for us, we just couldn't kennel our dogs. Now we have had to seperate males from females and we have a "groom kennel" so to speak...it's actually my little place to escape when I want to go off by myself and not have to groom in my house with all those hairs flying around. If we were ever "forced" to keep our dogs kenneled, we would not cooperate! Plain and simple. I suppose if it's ever enforced, we'll be sure to keep our number of dogs under the allowance. I would not be able to care for an outrageous number of dogs anyway and I think it's in anyone's best interest not to get in over their head. I'll look around and see if I can find the information you were asking for...but for now I need a little nap. |

My guess is that most breeders don't get a license. The catchin comes before the hangin. Also, if they were to get licensed, they would not have to use a separate facility, chances are the Dept of Ag is not going to reinspect unless they get a complaint. | |
