| how close together I have a question for some of the good breeders here. How close together will you or do you have litters and how close together do good breeders have litters? I mean from like two different females. Like say female one is just had a litter how long would you wait between mating a second female?

| That is an individualized thought process....At this time (I work full time too), I will not have more than two litters on the ground at the same time because I personally do not want to get so overwhelmed with puppy care that someone gets ignored or even less attention than anyone else. I also plan for "worse case scenerios"....I do not want more babies on the ground at the same time that I can financially take care of in the event of a major complication or illness. After I retire in October, I will be able to comfortably add perhaps a litter or two, for a total of 3-4 litters per year. It also works better for me if my ladies are bred so that they whelp about 4-6 weeks behind each other....that gives the first litter time to get a little age on them before the next enfants are born....everyone does this differently, according to their own circumstances and situations. |

| This isn't a question with a "right" answer and it's not a black and white issue. Each breeder is an individual person that has their own ways of doing things, and a good breeder will only have as many dogs and litters as they can handle properly. You're going to have breeders that have a very small number of dogs and maybe one litter a year ranging to breeders that have a larger breeding program and hire people to help clean, groom, and socialize dogs/puppies. I think the better question is WHY is the breeder choosing to have each litter they have and are they being properly cared for and socialized? I do think a pet-owner has a right to have their opinion about the type of breeder they want to buy from...smaller vs. larger breeding program, etc but I do not think there is a "right vs. wrong" answer to number of dogs/litters without knowing more information about the breeder and their program.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I concur with all the above. And to add my two cents in as a large dog breeder, as we have usually 6-9 or more pups in one litter. For one caregiver that is enough puppies on the ground at one time. I would not breed both females at the same time to deliver litters at the same or near time, unless I had some experienced help with me.

| I know a golden retriever breeder who ended up with 3 litters total of 26 puppies at about the same time. Her litter/pairings were all carefully planned out in advance but her females all went into heat at the same time! It was to be her 1 females last litter. She had plans for the others 2. She honestly did not think she would end up 26 puppies. She had tons of help though!!!

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I fainted reading this. 26 pups on the ground at one time. Good Lord. Thankfully she had lots of help, because for sure she needed it. Rotating pups every 2hours for feedings, is the minimum. What could all go wrong... My heart beats very fast.

| Wow...26 at once, and large puppies at that. My litter of two make enough poop as it is. Lol. Can't imagine 26!!

| Thank you all very much for answering my question. I don't want to breed but I do have so many things I would like to know/understand.

| They were all experienced mamas with great milk supplies! She did not have to supplement or rotate any of the pups. She did weight each puppy at least twice daily to keep close tabs.
