| I'm so at a lose, I don't know what to do...pls help I haven't been on in awhile because life here has been very hectic!! Izzy had her babies (3 of them; 2 boys, 1 girl) on October 30th and since Izzy's vulva was sooo small, my breeder had to deliver all the puppies and we almost lost all babies and mommy. I should also say they were not that big; one boy was 4.5 oz, and that's the smallest, the biggest being 5.5 oz. It's been a horrible ordeal. I've had every possible problem, you just couldn't believe. I've been on the phone with vets at 3am more than I can count just trying to "fix'" my baby. My questions are these, Izzy has low calcium, low blood sugar, low milk supply, doesn't have any interest in eating, and all of that's all very hard on my girl as it would be on any dog. To help her I'm giving her cal-sorb, which she throws up, Nutrical-which "so-far" we haven't had to much of a problem, ckn baby food, ckn, cottage cheese, beef boulion, peanut butter, corn syrup, honey, oh you name it, it's been given to her. Please, if anyone has any suggestions to help her eat (what to eat, how many times to feed her..etc), bring up her blood sugar (any home remedies), increase her milk supply (my vet said, "she doesn't advise beer..why?...who knows?), and calcium (she will not eat the cheese out of the cottage cheese, no vanilla yogurt but anything else???), I would be so eternally thankful. The only way I'm getting through all of this is with lots and lots of prayer. By the way, Izzy's puppies are growing and doing really well, it's their mommy I'm worried about. Any help, I would really really appreciate. Thank you so much. Oh and when can I give her a bath, my vet said not to do it cause it might introduce an infection; but she's filthy and sponge bathing isn't cutting it anymore. Thank you so much. A very stressed out mommy Pam, Izzy, Rocky, lil' bit, and Holiday |

| I am sooooo sorry! I found and copied this from an old post. I have found that if I pour this on anything , Toto will eat it. Perhaps you would want to try this for your baby and she will begin to eat those things that are good for her and her babies! I will keep her in my prayers ... please let us know how she is doing. Hugs! Nonnie's Magic Broth "I almost forgot and I must admit, there is nothing really "magic" about it ... wish there were. As, I have said many times .. Toto is absolutely the most stubborn Yorkie on the face of this earth! When she doesn't want something, she digs in with all four paws! She had an infection once and was so close to dehydration I was terrified! I begged the vet not to keep her ... I figured there was nothing they could do that I could not! I quickly thought about it on the way home with her ... I only had a few hours and I would have to give up for hospitalization! This is what I did .... I grabbed a bag of boneless, skinless chicken tenders from the freezer and thawed them in cold water. I drained them well on paper towels and sprinkled the top side with dehydrated, crushed parsley [no time for fresh!]. I sprinkled maybe 1/8 t. garlic powder ... figured it would entice her and that's not enough to harm. I browned them quickly in just a couple tablespoons of hot virgin olive oil. I then added about 6 bottles of ice cold bottled water and brought it to a boil. Turned it on low and simmered for about an hour and then strained it through a fine strainer. After I cooled some and offered it to Toto she drank it like a demon! I let the vet know and he had me give her about 2 T every hour until she was feeling better!! So, we named it the Magic Broth and I am seldom without it in the freezer. I use it in our food too. It has very little, if any, fat in it and tastes really good!! Sooooooo .... my dirty little secret is out ...... I almost forgot, the main ingredient is a ton of love!! "

| [QUOTE=izzybella mommy;2309849]My questions are these, Izzy has low calcium, The Calsorb you are giving is the best for her IMO if she is already having low calcium problems...Unfortunately it has a very bitter taste (I tried it) and makes many girls foam at the mouth or vomit...I have tried mixing it in some vanilla ice cream and some have liked it better that way...Keep giving it to her until she weans the pups! low blood sugar, low milk supply, doesn't have any interest in eating, All of those symptoms go together...Low blood sugar will decrease her appetite and not eating will not help the mild supply...I would syringe feed her a small amount every few hours...You can get some high calorie food from your vet that you can feed with a syringe, also available from your vet...You are probably going to have to hand feed her for a while and offer her cool clean water while she is in her whelping box...You can also syringe feed the baby food...I mix the nutrical right in the baby food and feed that way...Once you get her eating good she will be on her way... and all of that's all very hard on my girl as it would be on any dog. To help her I'm giving her cal-sorb, which she throws up, Nutrical-which "so-far" we haven't had to much of a problem, ckn baby food, ckn, cottage cheese, beef boulion, peanut butter, corn syrup, honey, oh you name it, it's been given to her. Please, if anyone has any suggestions to help her eat (what to eat, how many times to feed her..etc), bring up her blood sugar (any home remedies), increase her milk supply Milk supply is a supply and demand thing...The more demand made on her from her nursing pups the more milk she will make...She does have to eat and drink plenty of water to make milk...Don't forget that wet food contains water so she may not drink as much... (my vet said, "she doesn't advise beer..why?...who knows?), and calcium (she will not eat the cheese out of the cottage cheese, no vanilla yogurt but anything else???), I would not suggest beer either....The calcuim she gets from the calsorb should be sufficient... I would be so eternally thankful. The only way I'm getting through all of this is with lots and lots of prayer. Don't forget to get a much needed nap here and there...It will help you cope better and help get you through this... If she did NOT have a c-section then I would give her a quick bath...Make sure you blow dry her all the way so the puppies do not get chilled... If Mommy continues to not eat, and you are really worried about your mommas saftey then you may have to consider hand raising the litter!...Good luck!

| Sounds like you are having a really bad time with this. You might try, as well as all of GardenYorkies suggestions, a dollop of black strap mollassas a couple times per day. Also, if you can get her to eat anything, light salt sprinkled on food increases appitite. Best of luck!!

| You could also try some chicken noodle soup. Just drain the noodles out. |

| I just finished up with this and my one girl. She wouldn't eat anything except this mixture. One cup yogurt, one cup goats milk, one egg yolk and a tea spoon of karo syrup. At first I had to keep pushing it to her and after a few days she would eat it but didn't really want to. Each day got better. Then I boiled some chicken and cut it up very small and covered it with some chicken baby food and she ate it once a day and I topped her off with the milk mixture. We thought we might loose her but after four weeks she to back to her self again. Now she is on her kibble and feeling great. She did have to have a section. Having babies sure takes it out of some of the girls. She is very special to us and I am not sure she will be bred again. |
