I don't really have a secret. That photo was on my phone and I sent it to my email address. I usually get the option to change the size from small, medium, large, or keep it as it is. I didn't get that message this time.

I then received it in my email and saved it as "fish" then I checked the size and it was 154kb which is within the allowable 200kb YT allows and that's how gi-normous it showed up. I usually use Irfanview to resize my photos though and can get them much larger.

If you're using your phone, or your camera, what ever device, you can set the device to what size you want it to take photos. I always have mine set on the maximum because you just never know when you're going to get a nice photo you want to enlarge. That may be some of people's problems. If your phone or camera is set to save at smaller sizes, then there isn't anything you can do to make it bigger. Period. So check your camera settings on your phone. I think that's the secret. Big file=big photo.

I may not be right about that. I don't see a photo setting on my phone, but I know I can set the size on my camera.

What does that mean IDK ?

The MP (megapixels) will determine the clarity of your picture. Lower mp pics will look fine on a phone but if you were to try and print them in large size they would appear grainy. The higher the MP the clearer the pic will stay as you increase the size in printing or viewing. The problem with higher MP is that it uses much more storage space on your phone/laptop/pc. The limit on uploading pics on YT is 200k. The pics I take with my camera can be as large as 7MB. That is 35 times larger than allowed. They limit the upload size because if everyone uploaded large files, their server would run out of room quickly. So unless you do a lot of printing of your pics, you could reduce the size.

1MB is equal to 1000kb so your 3.53MB picture is roughly 3530kb converted IF I understand it correctly. So you could open your picture in a program (I use Irfanview) and "resize" it to 1024x768. I always start out as big as I can then go smaller until I get it within 200kb. For sure, unless you're starting out with an unusually large photo, like 14MB, 800-600 will still give a nice viewing size photo and get within the 200kb limit. Again, the larger the original the more it takes to resize it down.

Question: So what setting should I use on my camera so that I don't have to resize them for YT?

Try the smallest but I think that will also be too large.

Test photo after 7 attempts with two other programs. I did this one with the JPEG optimizer.

So regardless of what setting I will still need to resize them to load on YT, right ?
