My camera has the option to set pics 3,6,10,12,or 14 MP. I have it set to 12MP which make my pics 4288 x 2416 (3.53 MB)

The MP (megapixels) will determine the clarity of your picture. Lower mp pics will look fine on a phone but if you were to try and print them in large size they would appear grainy. The higher the MP the clearer the pic will stay as you increase the size in printing or viewing. The problem with higher MP is that it uses much more storage space on your phone/laptop/pc. The limit on uploading pics on YT is 200k. The pics I take with my camera can be as large as 7MB. That is 35 times larger than allowed. They limit the upload size because if everyone uploaded large files, their server would run out of room quickly. So unless you do a lot of printing of your pics, you could reduce the size.
