| Easter/Springtime Dresses Tried a new-to-me technique, Curly Hems, and used the hemmer foot. I am determined to become proficient in sewing machine attachment gadgetry!

| Thanks! I just noticed on Sapphire's dress (in pink) in that pic the silky skirt is all bunched up.... lol... she snagged it on a branch (trying to run away from the camera)! It smoothed right out after we came back inside. She loves getting dressed up, just hates the black box I always point at her!

| Kathy those dresses are just beautiful, are they brocade? Is the skirt a single unlined piece of fabric with a serged type of a hem. It really does flow well, I am still afraid to seam the edge of a skirt so I keep doubling over the fabric

I did them 2 different ways. My first attempt at using the Hemmer Foot did not go well... so I became reacquainted with my trusty seam ripper, lol. The Pink version was done by folding the brocade fabric over by hand to sew the hem. The pink mesh and the silky lining were hemmed (separately) using the zigzag stitch. The zig hits the fabric and the zag just misses it. This causes the material to roll over on itself and to form a small hem. Trim away anything that gets left sticking out when done. The 3 skirts (each, total 6) of the other 2 dresses were hemmed using a Hemmer foot. Yes, the brocade, the mesh, and the lining. It gave me a chance to get a lot of practice in, lol. I do like how they turned out, as it produces a hanky-like hem. The tricky part was encasing the fishing line into each hem to get the Curly effect. You can do a search on You Tube for Curly Hems, and using the Hemmer foot for instructions... Haha! No problem!

You're welcome! I have a few antique sewing machines that I still use for specific things. The older machines are better at sewing through thick seams and Velcro. And most of the attachments haven't changed much at all! Happy sewing!
