I've been a quilter for years. Worked in quilt shop, sold machines, taught quilt classes and machine embroidery classes for around 12 yrs. I miss it!

Since moving here and getting settled, I haven't been as into it as I was, but am slowly getting back.

I have been thinking of making dog clothes now. Might be a fun thing to do. Got the new serger that threads it's own bottom loopers! What a time saver and no bad words need to be said!!

A lady I used to work with was a quilter. She was working on a quilt and she got all of us quilting! She was working on a quilt, Grandmothers Flower Garden, the octagons......so that is all I have ever done or now how to do...I got my mother doing it too, and we both made 5 quilt tops between us....have never completed them, because I left that hospital, and dont know what to do to finish them off....the edges are octogon uneven and I dont know what to do.....when I retire in October, after I take a couple of months to get caught up on sleep that I have missed over the last 18 years, I am going to resume quilting, as well as crocheting.....I cant wait...it was sooooo relaxing.....

My Mom taught me how to quilt. I am working on a quilt for my daughters wedding present now.

Yes, the Evolution! I got the big package with all the feet and the rolling case as well. I don't imagine I will ever need the 8 threads, unless doing something decorative, but who knows?

It helped that I worked at the dealer so I got a really nice discount. I had two other sergers, a bernina cover stitch and my old baby lock that I have always gotten the best rolled hem with that, I think I will just keep it set at that rolled hem and always use it for that. The Bernina, I never liked, sold it. But now, having that threader and not having to change every thread if you break one is going to make me one very happy camper! Do you have one?

I have never used the "packs" she spoke of. I was taught to cut my own fabric. I will have to check it out.

I have a viking designer 1... it is old as the hill lol. I do the peice work .. and send it out for the quilting. I would love to have a quilting machine but do not have the space and they are expensive wow

I will post some pictures of my rag quilts and look for some of my other quilts if you like.

I haven't bought many of the packs either. I'm sure it cuts down on the time and they coordinate beautifully, but I think half the fun of making a quilt is picking out and matching up the fabrics. Plus the charm pack are more expensive.

I would love to see pics of the quilts you have made. Please post some pics!!!

Ohhhh, the very first quilt I hand pieced as a teenager was a flower garden. I no longer have it (I'm a dummy) but if I remember correctly, I made half flowers to fill it in and trimmed it even on all four sides. My mother hand quilted it for me. She hemmed it, but if you wanted to leave it scalloped, you could bind it instead. I bet you can find a youtube video on that design.

You have me wanting to make another one!!!

Congrats on you forthcoming retirement!! I'm hoping to retire in June 2014.

This is wonderful!!! Some of my some treasured possessions are quilts I received as wedding gifts for my mother, sister and sister-in-law. Your daughter is blessed!

Oh my then you must be in heaven!!! Your's is newer than mine, I have the Babylock Evolve serger. I love than I can change threads so quickly and that the loopers thread themselves. I knew it would probably be the last serger I ever buy so I wanted top of the line and the Evolve was it when I purchased mine. It's also the first serger I ever purchased and I just love it to pieces. I don't think there is anything I've sewn since bringing it home that I haven't used it on something. LOL I am so spoiled!! I also got the complete package deal with all of my machines which included tons of specialty feet and cases. I wanted it all. I know you will love yours!!

I'm a big Babylock fan! I also have the Decorator's Choice (now retired, I think), and the Nancy Zieman Anniversary Edition Ellegante II. It sews and embroiders but I only use it for embroidery and I absolutely love it too.

Ok, I'm done braggin'. I just love to talk Babylock with anyone that will join in. LOL Have fun with your machine, I know you will love it too!!!

Here is a picture of my first quilt... I did the peicing by machine and had it quilted by a friend and then I put the binding on

As you can see, I have a 'thing" for colors. That is what takes me the longest, even with my simple rag quilts.

I have more, just have to find the pictures

That's beautiful. It takes me so long too. I have to be the slowest quilter around and only working on it on the weekend, takes forever. At the end of my work day, I'm to pooped to sew

What beautiful quilts! I grew up learning to quilt with my mom and grandmother. They did the majority of the quilting but they did teach me. I remember the quilt thingy they used to use. It was wooden and made by my great grandfather. As a child I used to love to lay underneath the quilt as it was up on that quilt holding thingy and watch the designs take place as they quilted.
