Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | You know I was thinking... Hey guys! I was thinking...dangerous, I know! LOL I know some of you liked the ruffle pant suit I have been working on and had mentioned buying the pattern. Well I thought I would post this idea here instead of in the other threads so you would see it. Now, don't get me wrong, I loved the pattern I bought from Miss Daisy Designs. It was so easy to follow and I am a beginner at reading patterns. I will definitely be buying her patterns again. But...I did kind of go with my own idea and added to her pattern and it got me to thinking... If you do not want to buy this pattern, you might can make this using patterns you currently have or some advanced sewers may could draw it up theirselves. For example, if you have a harness pattern (this is the one I use and is SO easy...Fancy coats for small dogs by Sewing Pattern 2393 Simplicity) you could use that for the top. That is what I did on my latest 'airplane' jumpsuit. Then you could take a pattern like this with bottom (http://www.simplicity.com/p-2060-crafts.aspx) and use only the waist/pant leg part. Combine the 2 together, add ruffles OR pre made ruffled trim, and you would have a pant suit. I am a beginner, but I've been making my ruffles by cutting basic rectangles, sewing them together, turning inside out, doing a basting stitch, and then gathering. Then you just add it onto the waist/legs. The pattern that I bought actually comes with a different ruffle for the waist, but I did not use it. I made my own for that and added my own (smaller) to the legs. Just a thought. I'm sure some of you advanced seamstresses might have even better ideas, but it just got me to thinking and I wanted to share with my fellow sewing addicts. Then that got me to thinking...think of all we could make by combining patterns we already have. It would really help us stretch our dollars and get so many new looks. Also, on the pant suit, I also wanted to mention that the pattern from MDD calls for the pants part to be unlined and seams finished. Well I have a touch of OCD'ness (LOL) and I just had to line mine to finish off the look. All I did was cut out extra pants parts with the pattern flipped over and stitch togegether to create a finished look. Anyways....just wanted to share. If anyone else has any ideas for mixing/matching, do share! That would be awesome to bounce ideas off of each other!

| Great idea! I'm studying heirloom techniques, so on the bodices or the skirts of anything I make , you'll see something that isn't called for in the patterns, lol. For the VDB, I did a peekaboo lace technique and lace insertion on Finnie's dress: IMG_0728.JPG And on Zhoie's dress I tried a Madiera applique (scallops) and homemade piping all over, and piping over lace on the collar. That is a piece of antique lace... I wish I had more to put around the scallops...I'll have to look again, lol: IMG_0815.JPG (So far, I've only used the one dress pattern...)

| The scallops and trim look like a lot of hard work. I must say the details are definitely eye catching |

| I think putting patterns together can create alot of different looks for sure. It worked out so well on your jumpsuit. I bet it's much better with the pants being lined. You know, you could use the design you have using the 2 patterns, in like quilted fabric or something, add some sleeves and make a snowsuit kjc, I just love all the heirloom details and techniques you are using . I can't imagine being able to do something like that. I know it must really be so time consuming! But oh my gosh....so beautiful!
