| Question regarding docking of tails Hi All - Took our 3 newborns into the vet for dew claws and tails this morning. They are looking very good - are all over around that 4 oz size now. Question is - how do all of you determine the length of the tail? I have 4 yorkies of my own and all of them have different length tails. The vet said that taking off about 2/3 of the tail is the standard, but wondering what all of your thoughts are on the docking. Thanks |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Your vet probably is more of an expert in all breeds so he may not know the standard for a Yorkie, which is "TAIL - Docked to a medium length and carried slightly higer than the level of the back." I personally think a person should error on the side of more length not less." Here's what one of our breeders said in the past: Quote:

| I dock a 1/4 inch longer than the brown marking. If you look real close, and pulling the tail out straight, there is an indent about the same place. That's where I place the hemostat. |
