I don't like the excuse that if you don't take her someone else will. It's just trying to justify something you know is not right. You can take the pup or you cannot take the pup. The difference is you being a part of the sad never ending problem of too many puppies being bred and too many being put down every year, or you can walk away from it and be an advocate for these beautiful creatures by supporting reputable breeders and/or rescues.

The fact that this woman is letting them go at 6 weeks tells she is just in it for extra money. I've heard it so many times when I ask why they let the puppies go at such a young age; They just wanted to get rid of them. They wanted them out of the house. They don't care about the well being of the dogs. That extra 6 weeks would help immeasurably in the development of the dog's future.

Seriously, if the breeder is so horrible as to want the puppy out of her house, do you really think that's the best place for it to be?? I was am super excited to get my puppy and simply wanted to share my excitement with others on the board. That was a huge mistake on my part! I have read many posts on here from people who got their puppies from pet stores or Amish puppy mills and I wonder if they ha to go through the same bs. This is getting really old.

I'm curious how reputable breeders justify charging $7,500 or more for a litter of puppies even with genetic testing. The math just doesn't add up. Who's in it for money?

Do you even understand what the parents of a pup from a puppy mill go through and buying a pup from them keeps those puppy mills in business and keeps them keeping the parents in a living hell no joke. How could informing people of this so they stop buying from them and put them out of business ever get old? If you know buying from a puppy mill or from somewhere you know gets there pet from a puppy mill you are considered just as bad as the puppy mill. We are simply not talking about a puppy mill here though. We are talking about a laymen who is breeding for the wrong reasons. A good breeder breeds to better the breed this person is not or they would know what is best for the breed and there pups which is to keep them with there mother until they are 12 weeks old as well as do health testing and such. Have you seen a pup suffer from genetic illness they got because the breeder didn't care to do testing or bred two dogs they know shouldn't be bred? The only way to stop these breeders is to stop buying from them and yes one person does make a difference. On this board we have seen many many people get there pup to young and we have seen the consequences and some of us have live through them. We have seen biting problems, socialization problems, potty problems, genetic issues pop up, the pup not eat, hypoglycemia issues that some pups were lost from, worms, or other sicknesses. We have lived through this and most of us on here cry for these pups and can't stand to see someone have to go through it so we try to educate them and when they know better its like a sucker punch to those of us who tried and to the breed. I am not sure you grasp how bad it can be to get this pup at 6 weeks and I fear you like many people will have to live through it and its problems before you totally get it. My puppy mill pup has Luxating Patella she had to have a over $3,000 surgery on just one leg and will have to have another surgery on the other leg and the pain they have from this surgery is terrible and 8 weeks in confinement until she is completely healed. If getting the healthiest pup you can isn't important to you why didn't you just rescue one of the many many yorkies in shelters? I am guessing you can not and will not take at least a month off work to make sure this pup doesn't die while you are gone? Hypoglycemia is not rare and it is so much more serious then you think and once you experience it you will understand and its not over reacting to say it can result in death if not taken care of. The reply's you are getting are out of the love for this breed and the love for these animals so please try to remember that.

The normal price for a pup from a reputable breeder is around $1,000 to $2,000. Unless maybe it is a champion show dog or something. I do not justify that price. But I am ok with them cost $1,000 to $2,000 because it takes money to take care of pups and most breeders still don't make it out even. There is shots, dew claws, tail docking, whelping supply's, genetic testing, food, vet care and a lot more.

I don't think breeders who charge $7000 or even more (I've seen upwards of $10000) for a dog is reputable either.

The problem is you know what is best but you choose to ignore it. No it's not the best place for this pup to be in. Best case scenario this pup would never have been born.

Most of us here got our yorkies from less than reputable people, myself included. We've been though it and we're trying to keep new people from heartache. But if you've already made up your mind, so be it. there are others who read these threads, and as long as there's a chance I may change someones else's mind then it's worth my time to post here.

God forbid an issue comes up with your pup, but regardless, we will be here to answer your questions.

I don't see Idaho listed at all. Does that mean there is NO law as to how young a pup can be sold? Even Missouri has a law, and MO is the puppymill capital of the US!

I got the puppy I could afford. I called "reputable" breeders to see if they could work with my budget. I was told sorry time and again. They did not care what type of life I could provide for the puppy, they didn't even ask once they realized I could not afford their fee. I checked the local rescue — Idaho Yorkie Rescue — ADOPTIONS —*RescueMe.Org who has one strange looking dog. So, I found one I could afford. I would have preferred getting one from a better place, but unfortunately that didn't work out. I posted here for any reputable breeders to pm me. No reply. I appreciate all of your concerns for my puppy. I have appreciated all of the tips. I am picking her up tomorrow. I understand we all have our opinions and feelings regarding where puppies come from, and I appreciate the differences. I will not be discussing my puppy's age anymore. I would like to share my experiences here with everyone else. If it offends anyone where I got my puppy or how old she is, please feel free not to converse with me. I'm ok with that. Otherwise, I look forward to raising my puppy and being able to ask questions, share photos, get advise, and hear everyone's stories.

Sometimes we make less than optimal choices. But, we are here for you to help you with your new puppy. My suggestion right off the bat is to start saving for medical emergencies or consider pet insurance. Good luck with your puppy!

Wishing you the very best with your baby girl. As to the reason most good breeders and rescues won't discuss a price change I think they feel if you cannot pay the asking price you cannot afford the subsequent medical care that can and usually does arise with these baby's. Yorkies need reg vet checks, shots, worming, teeth cleaning, etc. I helped my sister in law with her puppy that she got at 7 weeks. It was quite a challenge. One she couldn't meet so it was left to me to keep her alive. She is doing well now but I can tell you it was really touch and go at first. I hope your baby will do well. Welcome to YT.

What a mess! We got a text from the breeder saying they were in their way. It's a 6 hour drive. We texted her to remind her to bring papers and records because that's a long drive. Originally she told me she was akc registered. Now, apparently she is apri registered but hasn't received the papers yet. Omg seriously! I told her to forget it so I will not be taking this puppy

We did find a local breeder who has 10 week puppies. We will be looking at them in about 3 hours. I am do discouraged and disgusted with this whole process. I know eventually it will be worth it. We are good people and I know we would love and cherish out puppy and care for her to the best of our ability. I don't understand why it has to be so darn hard!

oh , i am sorry you had to go through that with the first breeder. maybe that one was not meant to be for whatever reason..

Try not to get discouraged (I know easier said than done right?), the perfect puppy for you and your family will come along and he/she will be worth the wait. I'm so sorry that things didn't work out the way you wanted with the first breeder, but am glad you found out about the registration before they made the long drive to bring you the puppy. I know it may not seem like it right now, but maybe it was for the best.
