I hope this worked |
You will be suprised at what she will do by instint. But you still need to be there just in case. I had to clamp the cord and asperate 1 of the pups because mom was exhausted we had 6 and the last 2 came out at almost the same time. I am going to try to link this in the breeder section so hopefully others will see it and be able to help more then I can. |
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I will keep you posted...still no change |
I had 1 momma that waited until day 65. I was also a nervous wreck but try to be calm. I know it is easier said than done. Mom can sense your nervous (sp) I wish that I had more advice for you but I am a new breeder. I have had very few experienses and I don't want to give you any "bad" information. I have done lots of research and my vet has been wonderful along with a great mentor. But I am always learing and no expert. I will help with what I can and if I don't know a answer I will do my best to find it for you. Have you had your girl to the vet with this pregnancy? Are you familer with "false pregnancy" just in case? |
well we made it through the night peacefully and still no change. I know she is pregnant because there are puppies in there. I can feel them moving around...when i rub her belly...they rub back!! :) Maybe they are just not ready to come out and meeet their "Gam-Gam" We will know for sure tommorrow am at the vet. |
She may have taken from a later breeding and not the first one. It takes time and I know how you feel. Here is a great web site to help with information. - Canine Reproduction Part 3 Let us know how it goes. |
I looked at your pictures of mom and dad and I honestly don't think you will have any problems related to size. at least not by outward appearances. Mom will instinctly know what to do when whelping, but regardless, you need to be prepared for "hands on" help. It is not good to let mom eat more than one or two placentas. Don't want her getting sick right after whelping. The whelping pudding should be given right after whelping and for at least a few weeks after whelping to help her with her milk production and to keep up her strength. During whelping you will want to help mom remove the sack and aspirate the nostrils and throat with a baby "snot sucker".. lol... sorry can't remember the technical name right now.... you will also want to have a HUGE supply of towels fresh and warm from the dryer to stimulate the new puppies and rub them dry. Keep a hair dryer nearby (temp on warm) to help dry the babies. as soon as you cut the cords (I tie them with unwaxed dental floss about 1/2 inch from thier tummy, then cut on the side AWAY from the tummy) rub them vigorously with the warmed towels to dry them and get them to cry. as you rub them you will "get it" and see them come to life! after drying the baby, place him on mom's nipple to nurse until she started to deliver the next puppy. Then remove the previously born puppies and place them in a laundry basket with warm towels until the next one is born, then they can be placed back with mom. |
thanks so much for all of your help...I am not as nervous now. I'm more excited. I just want it to happen already. Last night, before bed around 11 oclock, I took her temp and it was at 98.3...this morning it is at 99.3...I'm starting to wonder if maybe my thermometer is a little off. |

OK guys!!!! I thinks this is it!!...SHe is whining a little...and she keeps going to the door like she has to potty. I let her out once or twice...she squated and tried to push but no potty...Are these contractions?!?!? |
It sounds like contractions to me.. Yeah I hope all goes safe:D |
Yes, it sounds like she is starting, taker her in a quiet room with the whelping box and see how labor progreses. offer her some ice cream or chicken broth. hugs, Carmen in nj |
