Help My Yorkie mama is 63 days today!! This will be her first time! I am a nervous wreck. I am expecting her to go any day now. Her temp is at 99.9...I have scowered the net and studied up on the whelping process. I have officially freaked myself out!!!! PLease talk to me...calm me down! |
Do you have specific questions or would you just like to chit chat and help calm you down? I will help in any way I can. There are a lot of wonderful people on here with a lot of advice and also support. Please keep a open mind and I am sure you will love it here. |
Maybe you could post some pics of your momma. We love pics here and that would keep your mind busy for a few mins anyway;) |

No Puppies Yet. I am really starting to worry. She Is laying around a lot...very tired...her apetite is about the same and temp is at 99.0. I haven't noticed any changes in her behavior.. She is laying all over me,,,but that is no different than anyday. I just wish it was over already...My poor baby is so tired and can't play and jump like we always do. Any encouraging words? |
What is the day from her last tie? May be she is one that ovulaites (sp) late? Keep on loving her and watch her close (I am sure you already are). Can you feel the puppies moving? I hope that everything works out for you and her. I always try to think positive and look at the other good things going on. Has she been to the vet? Do you know how many to expect? If you are really worried that something is not right, call the vet and maybe bring her in. I hope everything is well. There are a lot of really experienced breeders on here that have really great advice. :animal-pa I hope you are getting puppy kisses soon. |

I have felt the puppies moving around. I don't know how many there are. Abigail and Jasper (the baby daddy) tied up the day after thanksgiving. I Have decided that if she doesn't go by tommorrow night...I am taking her to the vet first thing monday morning. |

did you get x rays, how many puppies are you expecting? hugs, Carmen innj |
OK guys I have to be honest. I really had NO IDEA what I was getting into when I bred Abigail. If I could go back. I would have NEVER done it. A good friend of mine is actually the mommy of Abigails mate. She had a big roll in talking me into this whole "Breeding thing". She assured me that everything would be ok. She is a good friend and I trust her. But now that It is all said and done, I catch myself looking back and worrying. I'm afraid Jasper was too big and the puppies will hurt my Abigail. I have posted a pic of the mommy and daddy together. please give me your feedback. |
ok, let's see, is a misconception that is the dad is bigger than mama the puppies are going to be big, mama will control the size of the babies until they are born. the size of the babies are determine by the lineage on both sides., take her to the vet and ask for an x ray, that will tell you how many babies you are expecting, and if her pelvis is the right size to acomodate the birth. do you have a whelping list of everything you need? also VERY important to have the whelping pudding, I usually make mine when my girl starts her labor. is super important that your girl gets calcium suplement every day. let me know if you have any specific questions and I will try to help you. |

Abigails temp is at 98.3 .... She is napping now. What would be a great meal to feed her after Labor? I have also studied up on aspirating the puppies and cutting the chord...with this being abigails first pregnancy..does that increase my chances of actually having to do these things...I'm sure she won't know what to do...The little angel practically thinks she is human. Any advice or help? |

I hope this worked |
You will be suprised at what she will do by instint. But you still need to be there just in case. I had to clamp the cord and asperate 1 of the pups because mom was exhausted we had 6 and the last 2 came out at almost the same time. I am going to try to link this in the breeder section so hopefully others will see it and be able to help more then I can. |
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I will keep you posted...still no change |
I had 1 momma that waited until day 65. I was also a nervous wreck but try to be calm. I know it is easier said than done. Mom can sense your nervous (sp) I wish that I had more advice for you but I am a new breeder. I have had very few experienses and I don't want to give you any "bad" information. I have done lots of research and my vet has been wonderful along with a great mentor. But I am always learing and no expert. I will help with what I can and if I don't know a answer I will do my best to find it for you. Have you had your girl to the vet with this pregnancy? Are you familer with "false pregnancy" just in case? |
well we made it through the night peacefully and still no change. I know she is pregnant because there are puppies in there. I can feel them moving around...when i rub her belly...they rub back!! :) Maybe they are just not ready to come out and meeet their "Gam-Gam" We will know for sure tommorrow am at the vet. |
She may have taken from a later breeding and not the first one. It takes time and I know how you feel. Here is a great web site to help with information. - Canine Reproduction Part 3 Let us know how it goes. |
I looked at your pictures of mom and dad and I honestly don't think you will have any problems related to size. at least not by outward appearances. Mom will instinctly know what to do when whelping, but regardless, you need to be prepared for "hands on" help. It is not good to let mom eat more than one or two placentas. Don't want her getting sick right after whelping. The whelping pudding should be given right after whelping and for at least a few weeks after whelping to help her with her milk production and to keep up her strength. During whelping you will want to help mom remove the sack and aspirate the nostrils and throat with a baby "snot sucker".. lol... sorry can't remember the technical name right now.... you will also want to have a HUGE supply of towels fresh and warm from the dryer to stimulate the new puppies and rub them dry. Keep a hair dryer nearby (temp on warm) to help dry the babies. as soon as you cut the cords (I tie them with unwaxed dental floss about 1/2 inch from thier tummy, then cut on the side AWAY from the tummy) rub them vigorously with the warmed towels to dry them and get them to cry. as you rub them you will "get it" and see them come to life! after drying the baby, place him on mom's nipple to nurse until she started to deliver the next puppy. Then remove the previously born puppies and place them in a laundry basket with warm towels until the next one is born, then they can be placed back with mom. |
thanks so much for all of your help...I am not as nervous now. I'm more excited. I just want it to happen already. Last night, before bed around 11 oclock, I took her temp and it was at 98.3...this morning it is at 99.3...I'm starting to wonder if maybe my thermometer is a little off. |

OK guys!!!! I thinks this is it!!...SHe is whining a little...and she keeps going to the door like she has to potty. I let her out once or twice...she squated and tried to push but no potty...Are these contractions?!?!? |
It sounds like contractions to me.. Yeah I hope all goes safe:D |
Yes, it sounds like she is starting, taker her in a quiet room with the whelping box and see how labor progreses. offer her some ice cream or chicken broth. hugs, Carmen in nj |
