| okay so went into the vets today for a check up. Checked weights and heart sounds, fecal exams, and dewormed them (NO WORMS THOUGH!!!) ![]() WEIGHTS: BUBBA BALOO- 1 LB 14 OZ STELLA RAE- 1LB 5 OZ HOWIE- 1LB 5 OZ GIZMO- 1LB 5 OZ All of them are porkers. And of course my vet wants them back in 2 weeks for vaccinations. And said they can go home between 6-8 weeks. I wanted to cry. He knows how i am and asked me how long i planned on keeping them around. I said 10-12 and he laughed and called me a good momma. But i'm just wondering, why do breeders insist on keeping them longer but vets say it's okay to let them go sooner?

| I'm still waiting to hear everyone's response on what they think onmy question. Would like everyne's opinion. I know they learn alot from mom and siblings just wondering why my vet is giving me the okay to let me find homes for them at 6-8 weeks. that's 2 weeks from now and i am DEF NOT ready to say goodbye. Ntm, the homes i had planned for them never fell through so now i'm stuck and confused on what to do with the 2 of them i need to place. This was never planned and i'm greatful she was spayed during her cesarian but i'm still worried on what to do.

| The vet tells you that because that is what they learn in vet school. (never assume that your vet knows more than you about raising pups, nutrition, training, etc, they learn very little about these things unless they have specialized in it). They are taught about dogs in general, not small breeds vs. large breeds, and granted, some large breeds are ready to leave home at 8 weeks. The tend to get their teeth earlier and wean earlier than the small breeds. My babies are not even totally weaned at eight weeks and I wouldn't even consider letting them go then. It is so important that the little guys be well socialized so they know their place in the pack, or they can get into so..o.o much trouble out there in the world. Besides all that, we just get to enjoy the fruits of our labors for the extra weeks before we let them go. ![]() Audrey |

I've had some vets that I thought, how the heck doesn't he know. Or jeez I could of told myself that. A few times he's gotten out a BOOK to look through and figure out what was going on Sometimes they are good and sometimes they just lack education in certain areas.

| They need to stay with momma till at least 12 weeks. Momma teaches them throughout stages of growing. She teaches them social skills, along with pecking order. It is crutial time for them to grow up to be well behaved adults. Vets are taught the basics for everydog, not select breeds. You were right in the first place. Congrats, your babies are adorable!

| Thank you. I know. I'm definately not ready to let them go. Even at that they would have only had one vaccination. I really want to keep them around til they've had 2 or 3 rounds. Overall they are realy healthy porkers i just would hate for one of them to misbehave with a new family if they left too soon. Ntm momma LOVES her babies. Especially the boy and girl i'm keeping. But even after all that how am i supposed to find good homes for the 2 boys gizmo and howie? I was really hoping someone near me on this site would like to take them. My biggest problem right now is trust. And how to know for sure they would be loved and cared for. Everyone on here knows how stressed i was during and after Laynee's whelping. And i'd move earth to make sure they had what they needed. I just pray i can find someone who can do the same

My own family doc looks in the book all the time and I'd much rather he did that then making a mistake. My daughter just went through medical school and I know the amount of books she had to read, no one can ever be expected to remember everything.

| Oh yes thats you, sorry its been a hell of a long holiday. I work at the lovely walmart with 15 people in line all day long, so my mind has been a bit out of it lately. How have you been? Yes we went the same day csection and all. Is your female doing fine after that. Sassy acted like it never happened. She has recovered oh so quick. Now she is getting to the point that she does not want to nurse so much, I have to sit with her and let them feed. There little nails get sharp, so I clipped them but she still just is ready to get away from them. Tiered of laying around so much I guess. Arent the pups the cutiest. It just gets better with in a few weeks they get so beautiful I never want to sell them I just simply fall i love with them. I already have my favorite one picked out I do this every time and oh he is a doll. But I must sell them have to pay the vet bill off. (LOL) If ya know what I mean. |

yea they are a joy. Already two of mine are walking outside their pen to the pad to pee and poo. My big boy baloo and stella will pee on pads. I'm surprised on how quick they have started and i'm not complaining. We are keeping those 2. But i'm still stressed on the other 2 boys with finding them homes. As much as i would love to recoup some of the costs from her surgery and all around here people are crazy and hate people who breed whether it was an accident or not. I don't know how i'm gonna place them. I am so not ready to say goodbye. They all have amazing personalities. One being a rascal wanting to play...one being shy timid and secluded...one mellow girl and one boy who is ready to play play play and a trouble maker nipping tails and toes.
