very confusing??? these pups can't come out this early. Good Luck - we will be praying for gracie. |
:hands:I'm just getting ready to sign off and head for bed as I see this thread. I will say some extra prayers tonight for you, Gracie, and her babies and will check back in the morning.:hands: |
Thank you everyone! She has been calm for the past hour. She was discharging some black goop but no major pushing. I'm wondering if maybe she was expelling some of the babies that never formed or started to disolve. He** I don't know anymore. With the stethiscope we can still hear two heartbeats. I will call the vet in the morning and see what he says. |
I’m sorry but it sounds like there is a placenta detachment. I hope that it does not cause a domino effect, that causes the others to detach too. I had a girl that did the same thing. She had the green and black discharge 2-3 weeks early. She did not go into labor and no pup was born so I know she had absorbed it. She did go on to carried the other 2 pups to term. She expelled 2 placentas at birth but retain the other. My Vet said to wait and see if the other came out so I didn’t get the clean out shot and it set up a uterine infection that I believe damaged one of her horns. Just be sure to keep check on her if she does not expel the pup she is losing and the placenta . Have your Vet to give her the clean out shot after she has the other pups and put her on antibodies. I wish you both well and that she hangs on to the other pups she is carrying. |
I would advise that you take that mom to the emergency vet ASAP. The discharge indicates something is going on and it needs to be looked at. The puppies could aspirate the meconium and develop pneumonia or worse. A placenta might have separated (called placenta abruptio) and the puppies will not be able to breathe in the uterus. This is the advice I give when I am mentoring a nervous whelping midwife. The vet would be able to manage this situation with a c-section or OXY. Anyhow, the mom probably will need a clean out shot. We are sending prayers to you and those babies. |
