| Help!! Jolie' (mommie)...I noticed tonight that she has a few inverted nipples and they are hard like rocks and milk is leaking from them...and her two lowest nipples (don't seem to have milk coming out)have not really been sucked on but the puppies were latching on the her skin and it is red with little whelps and they have hard sacks in that area too. I wish I had noticed it earlier...I will bring her in to see the vet in the am. The puppies have not lost any weight...they pretty much all gained an ounce. Any suggestions on what to do? Greatly appreciated!! |

| Begining to feel better yesterday, Jolie' seemed to be torn between staying with me or with her puppies. I spent alot of my day next to the nursery box (whelping box). For the past year I have been home with her...she in the same room with me at all times. Usually on my lap or on my hubbys lap and when we aren't able to hold her she goes to someone else. Yes, she is spoiled. She also has slept with us every night. I must say last night was a long night. Jolie' was uncomfortable...she didn't want to stay in the nursery with the puppies, she wanted to come in the bed with us and she wanted the puppies in there with her. I put the pupies in the bed with me and her for a little while so she could rest while I watched big brother. After it was over she went out to potty and when she came back in she went to the box and it seemed like she wanted to lay with the puppies in there, so I put them back. Well, that is not what she wanted....she began to carry the puppies to my bed only she could not get up in the bed...it is too high. So, I put them back in bed with us...she was so happy. We all slept so good all night long. We went to the vet, he gave her a shot of Baytril, and 2 medications (Baytril and Rimadyl by mouth). We were told to put cold compresses on her just for today. Says she should be fine in a couple days. We need to keep a close eye on her. She is still feeding and caring for her puppies. The puppies got their tails docked and dew claws cut off. They are also doing fine. They have all gained an ounce. I will post more pics of them tonight. I hope you all have a Happy Valentine's Day!! |

| The babies look so happy & I feel so bad for poor Jolie. I hope her mastitis goes away soon. Jolie's immune system might be run down, because of fatigue and stress. Gently massage the area of tenderness. This increases circulation, helps to loosen any plugged ducts in the area, and mobilizes local immune factors. Try doing this while warming up the breasts in a warm cloth! She is a busy momma!

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | WOW! Congratulations on the large litter and wishes of continued good health to them all. Mama's poor belly looks so uncomfortable with the mastitis; my female had just a slight problem with that on her two highest nipples that were not being used when she had her pups. But yes, with the cold compress, just very periodically, it was gone in no time at all. I'm anxious to stay updated with pics of 7 growing puppies, so keep 'em coming!
