There might be a breeder in Canada near you. You can do a search for one in the regional section. Good luck.

I am coming close to the end of my search. I have found a breeder who is about 3 hours away from my hometown. She is amazing. In any case, the other breeder has informed me that the runt she is holding for me is 5 ounces at 12 days old. Any feedback?

I have raised a puppy this small....Im not sure I would do it again. It takes a lot of dedication and love to raise a healthy small baby. I didn't leave my home two weeks before be was born or three weeks after he was born. Smaller babies do not have very big tummies and can have high energy levels. They can have problems with hypoglycemia. He might have to be a little older before he can be released to you. If he is released at an early age and is tiny tiny tiny I might have to question that. Make sure you are educated in the problems of owning a small baby and be prepared for possible hypoglycemia episodes and you can have a wonderful time with your baby. What hurts these little one is coming to new owners that are not educated or prepared should a problem arise. I make sure each new parent is informed of any possible problems and they are given care instructions and web sites to read up on low blood sugar, upset stomachs, playtime and quiet time and puppy proofing their homes for their new puppies. You have everyone here on YT to to help you and that is a very very good thing. Make sure your breeder will be available to you after you bring the puppy home. She knows him the best right now and during that time when you are just getting to know one another it is very helpful to know you can pick up the hope and call the breeder incase you get worried or think something is not looking right to you. Leaving a tiny puppy home alone if you work can be a problem. We try to make sure our little ones go to someone that can come home during lunch and check on the puppy or that will have someone at home every couple of hours.

I am probably not going to get the runt from that breeder. I'm sure that it will be healthy if it survives, but I'd rather not risk it. It's sad, but I'm sure there will be a better owner who will take care of her. Unfortunately, I am an hour and a half bus ride from work, so someone like me couldn't come home to check on the puppy at lunch. I do have other family members at home, but it's better to invest in a puppy that won't 'cause too much worry to first time owners like our family. I hate how we have to "break up" with breeders when we finish our search. I'm sure they'll understand, right?

When I am in this situation I always thank the prospective buyer for their honesty and for thinking of the puppy above their desire to get a puppy. Any good breeder wants the best match for the prospective buyer and the puppy. You have to take size into account and also the personality of the puppy. Some puppies and dogs so wonderful alone and some dont. You have to look at the whole picture. A more outgoing puppy will not stress and worry as much as a more reserved shier puppy. Lets hope your breeder thanks you for your honesty. If I dont have a puppy for someone I will give them names and numbers of people I know that might have a puppy for them. Maybe this breeder knows of someone that might have a puppy that would better suit you and your family.

				 | I wish you luck finding your puppy. I dont agree with you that the runts are unhealthy though. My Jewels was the runt and only 12 ounces when I got her. She is 3 yrs old and 6 lbs and has never had any health issues. I know that you have to do whats best for you but I thought you should hear another side

ouyt of my twelve day old litter of five, i have two that are just five ounces. One of them didn't gain from her birth weight of 3.8 until she was seven days old. Now she is five ounces. the boy is 5.3 ozs. So far, I have had no problems and they are both nursing well. i just have to make sure they get the fattest teats. As a breeder, these guys are going to have to go a looooooooooooooong way before i feel they are ready to leave me. good luck in your puppy search.

Hello One of our fellow yt members has one of our tiny tiny babies. Her yt name is I LOVE BAILEY...do a search for her posts and read what she has to say about Angel. Except for getting into things she is not supposed to get into she has been very very healthy and stayed very small. Angel was over six months old before we thought she was ready to go to her new home because of her size. Angels new mom was ready and educated and we believe that is what has kept her so healthy and happy!
