Please, I need some help! Looking for Yorkie in NY After wanting a yorkie forever, I have finally decided the time is right to start looking for one of these adorable babies. I would like a female but beyond that, I don't know what questions I should be asking of a breeder. I know I would never purchase from a pet shop and I would prefer to be able to actually see the pups as well as parents but what other things should I be aware of that might not be so obvious to me, having never owned a yorkie? Also, I would love to find a breeder here if at all possible. I am located in Albany, NY. Any advise is much appreciated. Theresa

A phone call would do better...I know as a breeder/exhibitor it just makes me feel a little more effort is being put forth.

Some general question to ask breeders... 1. Vaccination/Worming 2. Health Guarantee - have it in writing 3. Health problems in family tree 4. Registration paper - depending if you care for paper or not...if a puppy is not registered they should be fairly cheaper than 1 that is... 5. Size - ask about parents weight, and esitimate on adult weight ( remember this is just an estimate but you can somewhat get a general idea off of the parents) 6. Color - if you are looking for a preferred color I hope that helps you somewhat...and good luck on your search.

Thanks! Thanks so much for your advise! As for color, I've been wondering, how do you really know what color the little one's will be when they grow up. Can you tell when they are babies or do you just make an educated guess by looking at the parents?

you can make a pretty good guess by the parents AND others in their background. i bred both my girls who are light to ceeeby who is also light. I have held back two girls to breed and i think both of them are going to retain their dark colors. i don't know where it is coming from tho.
