Many very good lines got away from good breeders over here because of that issue.

I wonder if they say the same thing about the Canadian dogs as you do about them? Its not nice to put down other countries show dogs.

Many of our Canadian dogs have AKC championships and Canada and US show breeders select for much the same traits in a Yorkie. And yes some European breeders would crique ours but many try to get one of ours from some of the top showlines in the US or Canada.
If you think stating the obvious is rude to Europe breeders then that is your opinion and the European breeders that admire and are getting dogs from US and Canada know what they are looking for and why they are doing that.

Totally agree with you Lorraine. If I recall, the Westminister Yorkie Champ was a Canadian Dog. Why go out of the North American Continent for a Pup? Well, maybe if I wanted a Parti I would.

Show breeders in US and Canada who are very serious about the breed will not sell to anyone looking for a show dog without doing a lot of background check and the buyer has to be pretty convincing they are not wanting to just breed and market the good lines teh show breeder has worked so hard to produce. Someone looking for just something to breed will not be considered.
Yes the winner for the Breed Yorkshire terrier at this years WEstminster show is here in Canada, owner/breeder/handled and they live about 1/2 hour from me. The Canadian dogs actually did very well at those shows, GNY Club and YTCA club shows held in those few days before WEstminster started. I know the Canadian dog bred back east that won one of those specialties, can't remember which specialty is Canadian bred and goes back to many canadian dogs in the pedigree. There were other Canadian dogs there as well that did very well in those very large shows.

Now I am by no means an expert on the Yorkshire Terrier but have done some research on the breed. The Yorkshire Terrier originated in Yorkshire---Lancashire ENGLAND which is part of EUROPE! I think that genetically speaking your dogs would not be to far removed from these EUROPEAN ancestors. Also the UK standard reads:
Temperment: Spirited with even disposition.(I think I'd want a dog with that temperment).
Size: Up to 3.2kgs. which in American units is 7lbs. hmmmmm sounds very familiar!
Also the AKC states no standard for temperment!!!!

True, but would I go to England to buy one? Many terrific Yorkie breeders here that breed to the Standard, and color.

Yes the Yorkie originated from England. However, if you knew anything about genetics, breeders in Canada and the US were selecting breeding stock for what they were looking for in a yorkie which over time was not the same as European show breeders. If you knew breeders from even 30 years ago, at that time they were selecting for different than today. High winning in the show rings Yorkies from the 50, 60's perhaps 70's would not get a second look today.
So here we are many many decades later and there are differences between the European/England Yorkie in the show rings and those found in the show rings in Canada and the US.
