I think we ALL Appreciate the value of our yorkies and we did NOT need to spend a ton of money - There are CARS that come close to the price of this puppy.

ps...As this puppy for a Fashion Accessory ? I don't even think a yorkie that small should be OUT in public - can you imagine the health risks with one THIS tiny ?

Well said Villette, I agree with you completely. I for one even if I had the money would not spend that much for a dog. Of course this is just my opinion. I also would not want one that small, but that's me. I love mine and would not take anything for them. I paid $8000 less for Mollie but she is a pet quality dog. But that doesn't matter to me. That is exactly what I wanted.

Sorry for rambling.

I dont think this person will try and sell any more Yorkies on YT. I know I wouldent it's not worth all of this. I agree the dog is to high. And I really feel sorry for the dog. Im not looking for an arguement here.and Im not taking sides. Just wanted to put in my 2 cents. I know I wouldent appreciate people saying my dog looks funny or needs a bath. And I think people out there with tinys should be willing to take the extra care for them. Not drag them around in bags and plane trips ect. They are to little and to fragil for all of that. Im not saying they shouldent go out. but I think these little dogs are happier at home where they can feel safe. I think some thing so small would be better off with someone that can be there with it 24/7.

My coworker ran into this lady at a vets office. She told me about meeting her and that she sold her yorkies for $10,000 and had a waiting list. Of course, my name will never be on that list. More power to her if she can get that kind of $$ however, I don't think that a person with $4800 will love that pup as much as someone who only has $800 to spend. I have pups from $750 to $2500 and I love them just the same not because I spent more for one than the other.

I wonder if the original poster is going to post again?!? I'm curious to hear her opinion and outlook on the responses.

YorkieLady 10-03-2005 02:13 PM

I am offering my full apology for saying this dog looks like it needed a bath. You are right. I would not want someone saying my dog looks weird or smelly. I should have been more careful with my thoughts.

my2yorkies 10-03-2005 03:26 PM

Oops, I got the figure wrong in my post...instead of $4500 it should say $8500.

chewysmom 10-03-2005 04:23 PM

I think the general feeling of discord evolves from the fact that this is a very small animal that needs lots of care and attention. Does the cost accurately reflect the care and attention this dog has gotten thus far? What we have seen posted is a dog for sale that wasn't even brushed for it's pictures and a dog who's eyes you can barely see.

This group is a very informed one that, for the most part, will not fall for marketing scams and people trying to gouge the prices of these dogs. Plain and simple.

wow,i just got done reading this ENTIRE post wheew! my honest opinion is this no matter what we say or do she will sell him for whatever price she wants. sad i know, to me, that price is crazy  i just don't and willnot ever understand why someone will sell their dog for that much, i know some will say , well it costs alot to take care of these dogs...well ya, but it will cost ME more in the long run. THEREFORE, why not think, geez i know this buyer is going to spend alot on the care for this baby,so maybe i should sell him for a "normal" price. idk, i guess that's how i would think. i swear the breeding buisness has become so corrupt to me, thank god we have afew left that are still reputable(alot are here :D ) it seems like the first thing that comes to mind is ewwww i have a tiny how much how much :thumbdown i am not saying that this breeder isn't reputable for idk her, buuttt come on guys, lets get real here 8000 for a dog come on! and to very honest with everyone wich i always am, seeing the pics of this adorable baby WICH HE IS it does seem like he isn't very well kept up as far as groomng goes, his hair on his feet are way overgrown. wich usually when a dog is well kept you just don't see that. if i'm wrong then sorry but i don't think i am.

Why do you value show dogs more than pets? Just curious....

SoCalyorkiLvr 10-03-2005 05:14 PM

Oh please yourself...I can show you several threads where you, VILLETTE have pointed to Cosette, the service dog and how she has saved her owner's life 7 times. I think she is a 2 lber!! You know exactly how valuable these little guys can be. Why are you pretending now that you don't???

Is this what you refer to as a "flip flop"?

I love the 10 thousand dollar breeder stories too - If I remember correctly - Chanel's breeder gave me quite the tall tale when I purchased Chanel - of course I believed her because I wanted to

IF I were selling high priced yorkies - I would def be telling potential clients about the 10 grand puppy I just sold - it would make anything they were interested in seem like a deal...pretty good selling tool actually.

and this comment ????: There are far less scammers out there than people realize I imo and we are almost all smart enough not to be scammed

WOW - I can't believe I just read that. Are you SERIOUS ? They are EVERYWHERE !!! Where's your compassion for those that have been scammed - you really don't think it could happen to you ?

We had a puppy that matured to 3 pounds in our last litter and when her owner took her to the vet, she was given a big lecture about how unethical it is to breed them this small. I got so defensive. I think you said earlier that about 20% of them are tinies. We don't have enough experience to know if this is true, but I know when you breed for a 5-1/2 to 6-pound adult, it happens. Same breeding produced a 7 pound male.

Granted - I'm only on post #70 so someone else may have said this already . . . but here goes.

The dam was 3.7# and the sire is 2.?#. Are you saying this breeder isn't purposely breeding for tinies? If you're in disagreement, something is wrong with the equation.

Basically I am saying that a breeder, a good breeder, is concerned with placement first and price last. They are making a financial committment in brining these dogs to life and by doing so that helps me have a better understanding for the prices they tend to ask (approx $300-$3000).
So when I look at $8500 from a person (not a breeder) who states they are not looking to place this dog with a person w/o of a "celeb" attitude but have a $8500 price tag for this Yorkie, I cannot that as good placement technique. There are a lot of breeders who do a hell of a job doing what they do but are not charging $8500 when they could have every right to.
From my understanding, they don't because they have passion for what they do and it is not about the money. This price seems about money and not about wanting to find this puppy a good home!
I would like to know how much this person spent for their Yorkie? In 6 months (if they have had the dog that long) what financial expenses did they inccure to justify the price? Where do you come up with $8500?
I am no expert; this is just my opinion.

For one, I would bet that that pup was so tiny that it had difficulty eating and needed to be syringe fed for the first few weeks at least. 3 weeks of 24/7 care at minimum wage with no overtime is $3528. She has had him and cared for him for ten months. That would be at least 4 hours a day for that period and all the ordinary vet bills, the stud fee, the kennel costs, the food, etc. I think $8500 shows she is not willing to let him go easily as she has probably developed a strong attachment a you do to one you nurse along like that. I have a very strong bond with my daughter's baby, Buddha because zi syringe fedhim for a week.
