| I was thinking the same thing? Some people prefer to get their dogs from a rescue, and some prefer getting theirs from breeders at 12 weeks train them the way they want them trained. izzie, did you get yours from a rescue? |

I also live in oklahoma and have been looking for many months now.... You DON'T find them in shelters here - plus if you have children UNDER 10 years old the rescue will NOT consider you for an adoption! So unfortunatly a breeder is the only choice for some families!!!!!! !! -:¦:- ) * ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) -:|:- ((¸¸.·´ ..·´ ~Shelly *· -:¦:- -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´* -:|:-

| Shelly, What are you looking for? I have an adult male and female and a male puppy. I know how it is in OK. When we were looking for our dogs. I don't know how many puppy mills we went to before we found and actual breeder with nice dogs and clean kennels. I was embarrassed to even have gone to those place and I couldn't believe that these people would actually show me their dogs living in horrid conditions and act proud of themselves. Sorry bout the tangent! let me know what you are looking for. maybe I can help you find it. Carrie

Please do be aware that many many breeders here in Oklahoma are back yard breeders or puppy mills. Oklahoma is the 2nd largest puppy mill state because of our lack of legislation. Do your research an buy from an ethical breeder if you decide to buy. Oh, and we have puppies sometimes too.

I should have worded that a little differently. The majority of rescues don't want to consider a family with small children... I think one of the reasons you don't find them in shelters is because the most shelters know to call a rescue because they are a highly sought after breed so the average person searching for one never gets a chance to see them in there before the rescue organization is called. I have been to Ok Yorkie Rescue and some of the dogs are NOT ok for a family with children. I found it on petfinder.com and if you search through some of the other rescues the specifically say NO children under 10 - I seen on last night that said NO children under 13! Even for their young - under one year old puppies! I refuse to buy from a puppy mill - I would love to save them all but I will not purchase a puppy from there to support them... I would love to have a yorkie right now, but I do want to find the right one for my family and I know that can take some time...

| I hope both of you are able to find the puppy that best fits your families. Yorkies are great companions. I do want to say in defense of the rescues, if we say they are not suitable for young children it is because we have had them in our home and know that the furbaby does not do well with them. However we do not have a rule against children. However as an owner with grandchildren I will tell you that the smaller the furbaby the more likely a child, no matter how careful, will accidently hurt the furbaby. Their little bones are so delicate. I have found the bigger Yorkie (loving called teapots here) are usually a little sturdier. I do wish you both the best of luck in finding your forever furbabies. Merry Christmas.
