Hi Nichole, I think I met you at Uncle Sams and directed you to this site. I see you have now met the gang here at Yorkie talk. They are a good group , just kindof sensitive about us using the term "teacup". I know what you want....it is just what I wanted. A pretty little yorkie to love!!!! Well, I have my Gia and at last count she did only weigh 2.8 lbs. While I agree with the posters for the most part that smaller pups are prone illness and or injury, that has not been the case with my Gia. Aside from having two bum knees, she is find health wise. (Just never let her have greasy table food , especially pork) I was intent on getting a pretty girl and pretty she is. She was imported from Hungary by a broker, culled from Hungarian stock because she is too small to breed/show and they probabley noticed her luxating patellas. I loooove her sooooo much! When the time comes, I will have her knees fixed. Having said that,I want to warn you to be careful in your quest to find the perfect girl for you. There are some people out there who breed just for size (just like the other posters told you) and they have no concern for the health of the breed, only to p roduce small pups because people do want them small. I really wouldn't care if Gia was a little bigger than she is. She is really fragile and I am VERY protective around her. no children are going to touch her, adults are not that great either as they underestimate her springiness and one fall from someones arms could result in death. BUT, I know you want small so be careful or you will end up with an 8 lb yorkie and that is not what you want! DONT' spend your money on a pup younger than 12 weeks. Utilize the weight chart posted here at this site as it is a good predictor. I couldn't find a dog here in our town but there is a breeder in Attalla , she is nice but did not have what I wanted. PRIVATE message me and I will tell you more. Best of Luck , I will help if I can.

Hey Jersey Girl, NO~! I was not going to advocate this broker AT ALL!! I am sorry if my post seemed to validate her at all!! I was desperate for a pup.... I had looked for two years....could not find what I wanted. I was determined to have a little show girl with a pretty face, cobby body, good hair, etc. IT is just my nature to study the literature and I knew exactlly what my Gia was to look like!! THen, in my quest to find her, I was unable to.... it is tough to get your hands on pups with good breeding, etc. I would sit for hours on Yorkie talk, going over all th eposts and looking at all the pictures, enjoying others stories of their cute pups escapades.... (by the way, I still lurk , never post, b ut I enjoy all things YORKIE) NO NO, i DON'T advocate any Broker but somehow this person did get her hands on some beautiful puppies, and they were already 12 weeks old, which allowed me to correctly judge her adult size. I had people wanting 1800 dollars for a small yorkie and in my heart I knew there was no guarantee that they would be small. I now believe 5lbs is probabley the perfect size for a yorkie. Gia is doing well , but she lives in a household with no other dogs inside and two adults who dote on her and watch her like she is a toddler!! (empty nesters we are). I was going to send Nichole to TYAAVA in GA. She is a fabulous breeder, world class now. If I was looking for a second dog, she would be where I would go. I tried her before but she is very busy and I never spoke with her and she did not return emails. She was probabley getting ready for Westminister. I just know how frustrating it was to be looking for my little doll. But please know I don't advocate using a broker but Gia was going to end up somewhere and she has a great home with me.

Sheila, Hi! True, bum knees are a problem but a huge percentage of yorkies have them. My daughters has them too. Both are asymptomatic at this point. I was upset of course when I found out she had these but at that point, I was her MOM and what cha gonna do? I am thankful that she has not exhibited the other bad traits that are inherent to this breed such as liver shunt. Where does a person go to get a pretty yorkie? There are breeders in our state (ALA) that sell "yorkieish" dogs who look like mixes with silkies... papers don't mean alot to me when I am seeing a long snout and long legs, etc. Andthey want you to pay thousands for them. I just wanted to help Nichole stay away from getting ripped off but I can see your point, I was ripped off too in a way as Gia has her knee problems.

There are so many places that you can find adorable babies that are well taken care of from reputable breeders and there are many places you can find puppy mill and people that should not even own a dog much less breed them. you have to search and find those places. You yorkie is a prime example that many tiny ones have so man y health problems or just one(lp). When you buy from them, they are making profit and they know people want them so they are going to keep on breeding them over and over and over. Why does people want tiny ones? Because you get more attention with them? You can dress and doll up bigger ones too...I just don't get it!!!

I got my tiny from a rescue. She is just shy of 4 lbs. She's healthy, beautiful. Small, with the cobby legs and baby doll face. The best part is she only cost me $400 and she came to me vetted, spayed and with all her shots etc. And I even get a lot of attention (LOL) Of course mostly from woman I'm just trying to make light of some of this by saying you do not have to go to a broker, a puppy mill, a bad breeder, or a pet store. All you need is patience. And, keep your eyes posted on www.petfinder. Right now they have a little guy that has hernia that needs fixing. He's tiny and young and in a NJ rescue. Elaine
