A huge clarification is missing, one which we'd probably never have consensus on, for both personal and political reasons: HOW, once and for all, is "profit" defined in a breeding program? Because, obviously, one person can look a program and see profit; another could look at the same program and see almost no profit. That said, if *profit* is the goal - that's where I view a whole other place of intent. INTENT being the key word there. But, few will admit to profit as a goal, bc it's just too ugly. And, I can think of several, and I mean several, breeders on this board who breed for profit - but won't simply just say that; instead, they state the "bettering the breed" line. Even though their quantity/quality of litters proves otherwise.

I'm not a breeder (I'm "on the outside"), but there are so many signs/cues/signals from the outside that we all see here - and we see the cream rise to the top, we see the middle, and we see the bottom. So, even though "us outsiders" don't know everything about breeding, we're not stupid either - and we don't have wool over our eyes. There is a whole spectrum of breeders on this board - and they fall where they may, ya know?

I really, really appreciate the experienced breeders who come forward and share their knowledge and experience - bc they often get bashed for it (as seen here w/ Bama).

I repeatedly hear some breeders make comments about non-breeders thinking they "know it all" on YT. I may not know a whole lot about whelping and raising a litter (although I know basic things...I've taken embryology and am studying to be a vet), but I've learned a whole lot about what is and is not a reputable breeder. I don't know it all by any means (does anyone?) but I feel like I know quite a bit and I learn something new almost every day. You don't have to actually breed to know what a reputable breeder should or should not be doing. Anyway, I've learned enough to know I don't want to breed anything...I'm interested in possibly showing one day (maybe a couple decades from now..) but we'll see.

I hope in my other thread that I didn't imply that all breeders make a profit eventally! I know that really isn't true and that some people actual don't breed often and when done is only for that next show pup... But over half do!... LOL... We got to stop taking over other people threads... Lets make up another one if we would like to here other people thoughts on a subject. I'm pretty bored. LOL

Why are you purchasing a small dog? Are you a breeder or do you want a pet. I Have a tiny male but he is pre-spoiled and very special . I would be very cautious of who i sold him too. He is 2.5Lbs. 5 months old and almost completely housebroken.He sleeps by my head every night and needs to be someones baby. He is health certified, good bones , both testacles dropped, silky yorkie. I would give breeders rights but he has to be an inside spoiled dog before i would consider selling him.

bama... I never said ALL breeders profit eventually. I made it very clear that some didn't and name a couple of incidences that I could think of and said there were more.

And about intent... I think that was in one of my posts. I agree w/ the person that said it was all in the intent!

Good Luck to you .... This breed is just like having a baby. It is not a dog to throw in the backyard or to be left all day .... They want your undivided attention. Perhaps you are buying for a family member or spouse, these babies will make them very happy... Plenty of outfits to choose from and they will give you a good 15 years if healthy.....

Please don't take this the wrong way.. but I have done a lot of research, and I KNOW better than to try breeding a dog this small. I would never do that-- that's animal cruelty, in my opinion. And besides, most breeders (unleess you go to a BYB) will require you to have a dog like that spayed. And, even many larger (at least 5 lbs.) Yorkies are put in jeopardy when they are bred and have puppies. Breeding is risky business that requires a lot of dedication.
