Wanted Yorkie in NJ/Not much $ But have a lot of <3 Hello Everyone :-) I am brand new here, as you may have noticed. My name is Lissa, and I am 26 years old. I was born and raised in New Jersey. My aunt bred pomeranians and my mother had an affinity for them, but her other sister absolutely adored yorkies and I have always had the even softer spot in my heart for them. Altogether I think that myself and the world of small dogs are bound and determined to live in harmony in one way or another... lol. I just moved into my own apartment on October 11th. I live in Brick, NJ. That is right next to Point Pleasant, just to give you folks a place that is a little larger to relate to, geographically. I did move out when I was 20 but I have always had roommates or lived with family. Now I am in a pet friendly apartment on my own. I am currently collecting SSI because I have injuries to my neck and low back (severe disc herniations) and am awaiting funding to go to nursing school. I am on a very limited budget, but I would adore a lil furbaby in my life! I have done a lot of looking, and I knew right from the get-go that I wouldn't be able to go to a breeder, of course. Money-wise, that would be out of the question... so I figured hey, why not rescue a pupper in need? Well.. then I saw to my despair that even the rescuers sometimes wanted up to 700.00 even for a dog that was up to 15 years old... 'to support the general rescue of all of our animals, old, young, healthy... etc.' I completely understand this concept, I am right there with you on the concept. But I can't do it, myself. :-( So, here I am. Alone in my apartment. Well, currently at the library because I don't have a computer yet, my aunt is building me one. And.... puppyless! Argh! So, I understand that I am brand new here. And I firmly believe in finding our furbabies good homes. So, if anyone out there knows of a doggie that needs a good home in New Jersey and can extend that pupper to me without charging much, I would be happy to take that doggie in. If you want to wait to get to know me some then lets chat some more. :) My email is professalissa@yahoo.com I will be around every few days or so, as I said I do not have a computer right now. I know this is a really long post but for any of you that are truly animal lovers... (and I know you all are...) You might know how lonely an empty apartment is when you want a friend! Specially at the holidays. So thank you for meeting me, and it is nice to be here... and seasons greetings to you all :) |
Welcome to YT! Good luck on your journey to finding your new puppy! :) |
Good luck Good luck. I am sure you will get nice and mean posts. I just hope (pre-emptively) that people realize you are looking for any yorkie....even a rescue. I know there is a need for chging more for rescues to help pay for medical costs... but there are so many perfectly good yorkies that need a home just like yours... I hope you find one. |
did you see There is someone in NY trying to rehome a 8yr old yorkie. They are only asking 500.... !!!! I mean that is still a lot for someone in your situation but a great deal... you could always pm him and try to negotiate... it is a 8 yr old yorkie after all! |

LOL, When I saw this post I didn't read any farther and just thought of your little one and posted before reading the threads. I hope it works for you. THEN I saw other's thinking of you as well. Finger's crossed. |
FYI, from the 'rules' section: We do not allow begging for free puppies or puppies at extreme reduced costs. Yorkies are generally from $500 on up, with most being in the $1000 to $1500 range. Please do not post looking for Yorkies below $500. If your budget for a Yorkie does not allow for $500 or more, you may want to look into Yorkie rescues or adoptions of older Yorkies, as they may be better suited to your price range. Feel free to PM sellers with an offer, but the public forum is not a place to beg or whine for a Yorkie. There is some good advice in that. You may want to check in the rescue section here on YT--you may be able to find a Yorkie that is closer to the price you are looking for. Or you may be able to find a breeder who is trying to replace a dog that they have retired from their breeding program. From what you describe, your funds seem limited and it seems that your time will be also once you start school. Why take on something as big a financial responsibility as a dog at this point? Why not wait until you are back on your feet and use the time between to conduct your search? That way you can take the time to find the dog you really want and will have the funds to pay for it and and other costs that come with it.:) |

I can understand you wanting a pup but is it fair to the dog. How about volunteering to work with your local Humane Society, animal control or maybe even a rescue group that you could help with. |
Please don't make the OP feel like she did something wrong. She didn't and does not know the rules, it was her first post. She was also not begging but inquiring and it just might work. There is a yorkie looking for a wonderful loving home and free if the home fits it's needs so there might be a match. OP I hope it works for you. |

OMG, there is no need to make a person that is new to YT feel like they are doing something wrong right off the bat...there is always a dog on here, some one looking for a home, there is one I was thinking of and the woman died and the girl looking after the sale, is selling the dog at a good price to a good home..So since you around for awhile, why not offer her a link to some posts out there..instead of saying she is begging....sorry, but that just hit me the wrong way..  pooh's mum. |
Archie I totally agree. I would love to know what the founders actually meant when they made that rule. I "believe" they wanted to stop people from getting on here and begging for 12wk old puppies from good breeders on here, hence making breeders feel bad or getting on their nerves and bothering them. With that.... I totally agree. It is expensive to raise healthy happy puppies. I just think come on.... there are circumstances that don't fall into the catagory of begging for puppies.... except to a "few" on here! BUT.... there are incidences... like the rehoming of the 8yr old .... where you can match someone w/ limited funds to someone needing to rehome. Maybe we need to start a section for just that! AND.... while I realize there are cost w/ yorkies that you can't forsee... all dogs for that matter... isn't it ellitist to tell someone they shouldn't get a dog because they are short on funds. There are perfectly healthy dogs out there that never need more than the vaccinations. Hell... the dog I had for 15yrs never ever ever went to the vet... and he was an inside/outside... dog. We gave him vaccinations... wormed him... and he lived a long happy life! I mean there are A LOT of people who have more than enough money to care for a dog that aren't going to part w/ the funds that many of the women on here do for liver shunt surgeries. Funds don't make good people! You can get a rescue and spend a fortune or you can get a dog from one of the best breeders in the country and spend a fortune. Or the opposite! You can't fortell ...just like you can't fortell what is going to be wrong w/ children when you have them. If we all waited until we could afford to have children... well we wouldn't have to worry about global warming... because very few of us would exist! lol |

I don't think Bama was saying that she was begging, just posting the rules. Bama said that there is some good advice in the rules she psoted. The rules also state this.... |
Mypreciouspups If you notice... I tried to preemptively point out to everyone she was not begging. The same people always pop that rule out and make people feel bad whether or not they are actually begging. I knew it was only a matter of seconds before just that post was posted in response. I hope I helped her before she got offended... or warned her...lol. I thought of the pup you thought of too... but I believe it is in California. I was just typing that we needed a section for this type of thing when you posted. Glad I am not the only one who feels post like that are inappropriate in certain circumstances! |
Shadow She wasn't begging or whining... just looking for sellers to pm.... and she said she was willing to rescue.... why does no one see that? When you are new here you don't know who to pm to find a puppy... but if you post a simple email.... several people may know of rescue situations where you could help! |
I've been here a while See... I have been here a while and never noticed the rescue section bama mentioned. It is a big site... we can't read all the rules before posting... there are a lot of them. But we could say things in a nicer way... say like pming them w/ the rules instead of publically humiliating them... or by just saying... "please see rules here" It rubs people the wrong way because of the way it is done! |

Asking for dogs--be they full grown or otherwise--is not allowed...any which way you want to interpret that. The rules were made a while back to address a rampant problem that lots of YT members were complaining about. Rest assured, ALL of the rules that ADMIN has put into place were to fix problems that were occurring the the majority of the YT members were complaining about. Shadow--thank you for getting my point! |

That is all I am saying, and maybe it needs to be revamped, or maybe there can be something that allows a brand new person not knowing everything, to get feel welcome first and yet told where to go to look for something..without the harshness..for all to read. I am only saying we all love our yorkies, wether it is to show, breed, or just to love them, so anyone coming on here and just does it wrong, should be given a chance before being pounced on... I think maybe something should change here...saying something with a huge heart is so different... Maybe we need a section for the brand new people to just be themselves and not feel as I am sure this girl does at this moment..we are not all smart about everything when we first try something new... |

I like this place, but for sure I do have better things to do in my life but to look through threads to see what I can do to belittle someone in front of ever so many people...the ones that know this breeder may feel different,. but for those of us that are quite new here, that do not know everyone, can and do take some things as being blunt..hurtful pooh's mum |

I'm not sure why it has to still be an issue with the OP not even here, why do ppl have to take things further and read between the lines?? Rules are rules period!!! |
