| What's the difference between Gold and Tan? I just read the blue thread and I wanted to start one about the difference between tan and gold because that is what I'm really confused about. On AKC registration forms, Gold and Tan are two seperate colors and supposedly only tan is acceptable in the show ring. I see a lot of people use tan and gold as if it is the exact same thing though or will even write "she is blue and tan(gold)" as if tan and gold were the exact same color. So can someone clearly show me the difference between tan and gold? Also, I'm pretty sure Lacy is blue - definitely a dark blue. It's not as clear as it is when looking at a show dog because she doesn't have a good silky coat, but when the light shines on it, I can definitely tell it's a dark steel blue. But is she gold or tan? I'm at school right now so I only have my avatar picture for you to go on, but I can post more pics of her when I get home if needed. Her avatar picture makes her look really dark, but she's slightly lighter in person than in that picture. I just really want to understand the difference between gold and tan

| gold Correct gold, is tri-color...deeper at the root and then shades lighter and lighter to the tip. I find tan tends to be a flatter solid color for the most part.....gold is cool to the touch. You can see the shading in your Yorkie's gold... Last edited by YorkieRose; 09-18-2007 at 12:30 PM. |

| You know maybe for everyone to get a better idea of what I would consider the correct color for show is do a search for Tyava's Sure Shot, Groveshire's Fast and Furious and Pastoral Smooth Sailing and see if you can get anything on these dogs. If you can get a picture, then you have what I think is the best repsentation of our breed in the show ring! Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers! |

| Brooklynn, do you have a website? Thanks for the clarification I'm pretty sure I understand the difference between gold and tan now, although it can be subjective.

Sureshot and Groveshire's Fast and Furious have the correct tan or gold however you want to put it for the ring! Radar who is my avator I would call a light gold could be darker but it's acceptable in the ring. Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers

| I thought gold is the darker and tan is the lighter shade.

| In this breeder/exhibitor's opinion the gold is lighter and the tan is darker. It's all interputation. Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |

| And when I got her the breeder said "she's gold right now but she'll probably end u being a lighter shade of tan.. almost white" and she is only 5 months old and is already getting that extremely light shade.

what your yorkie is doing is what we call breaking color. It will look white but if you look at the roots it should be a shaded tan color when she starts breaking color. Sometimes it will end up a nice tan and sometimes will end up what is considered gold. Can go a light gold or stay a nice darker gold which I prefer. She's still young and you'll be able to tell when she gets older Nice age to start breaking color. Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers
