| Breeders and competition question First, I want to clarify that this post is just for the sake of knowledge. I am always interested in learning more about Yorkies! LOL Gizmo is 15 weeks old, male and we have a limited registration/ pending alteration contract. I am happy with that since I have done a lot of research and respect the health/behavior reason for neutering. I also have a GREAT deal of respect for people who show in conformation and appreciate how much work goes into it. You are truly dedicated to showing how beautiful the Yorkie breed is to others. Now for my question....when the breeder showed Gizmo to us along with his littermate (also male), she was still trying to decide which one she would keep for herself. If a breeder is selling a puppy to a local buyer, might he/she sell only with a limited registration to reduce the potential for show competition? I would think that the more wins in a line, the better for you as a breeder, but I wonder. Any thoughts?

I know when I sell a show dog (and do so very reluctantly, after really knowing and trusting the person) it is with a very stringent contract, I want that puppy Championed and I don't want my pedigree in every back yard breeders hands.....it was entrusted to me by some of the top breeders in the country.

| That makes more sense now. We have a problem around here (maybe everywhere I'm learning) with backyard breeders/puppy mills. Some of my puppy shopping visits were frightening.

| who is your breeder? Hi Judy! I have to ask, - sorry because it is a little of topic - but if you don't mind, -who was your breeder? I purchased my dog just outside of Waco from a breeder about 2 years ago and had a difficult time finding a good breeder. |

The problem is everywhere. The breeder/exhibitor and the professional hobby breeders put a lot of time, blood, sweat and tears in developing and mainintaining their lines. In the hands of those that attempt breeding without knowing what they are doing breaks our hearts.

| Judy, I started my show career in Texas and just recently moved back to California, my dogs have done very well at the Waco shows. I'd be very interested to know you your breeder is too, since I do know so many breeder/exhibitors. Please PM me privately as many breeders don't like their Kennel name on the internet.

| oops, sorry. I should have asked in a PM like Mardelin. I didn't realize that breeders may not want to be publicly identified. If you don't mind, could you PM me? |

| Sure, no problem. I will pm both of you. I don't think she shows anymore, but she still breeds for show quality. I think ? but don't know if anyone in her family shows now.

Would I find out about Waco shows on the AKC website? I would love to go and watch! Do you still compete in the Waco shows? I didn't know if you had family here or not, so it's not such a farfetched question! LOL We have a GREAT agility club here, so I plan to take Gizmo to explore that idea.

I'm not planning to compete in Waco this year. I do plan on being at the Bluebonnet Yorkshire Terrier Club Specialty in September at the Sterling Hotel, on September 13th....it is a 3 day show; Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
