The only Almond oil I found was Sweet Almond oil. Is that the one you are talking about? It was much less expensive...only about 7 dollars. Even though her hair is a lille oily now it feels 100% better! Here are those pics. Keep in mind she is in her first season and acting all weird! These really don"t show the oil that well.

I heard about almond oil (don't know about the "sweet" one or not) and coconut oil. Emu oil is GREAT! I use it for so many things, but like you said, it is expensive. I am trying to find a good clarifying shampoo...what are you using for that?

The pure almond oil is purchased at GNC health food, I'm not sure about the sweet almond oil. Yes, EMU oil is great, but when you're taking care of several show coats it gets pricey. The Panteen Clarifying Shampoo is what I use, and the only Panteen product I use.

Which is precisely why I am no longer using the Pro-V!!

She is cute and her coat does look nice. Don't you just hate it when they're in Season. My first show dog/Female "Ch. This Time Worth The Wait and was handled by a handler early on in her career. Well she would get all funky and stupid when she was in Season. But, we always knew when she snapped out of it she'd want to kill everything at the show site. When she'd let out that deep bark.....her handler would look down at her and smile and say "She's Back".

LOL!!!!!!!!! I have been waiting for her to go all aggressive, but she just wants to be all docile and loving and calm and just not her usual assertive independent self! Of course her sis Juju the lil 2 and a half pound poodle is terribly gender confused!!!!!! She is continuosly trying to mount Uma, who just stands there and looks at her stupidly. Problem is Juju wants to chew Umas' hair while engaging in this confused activity!! SO of course there I go rescuing Uma from a hair mauling every so many minutes! Anyway I love the texture of the hair after the oil. It is wonderful! But I am also glad to hear that it will dry a bit. Thank you. P.S. Hears hoping Uma doesn't snap out of all this docile behavior right into a kill mode!!!!!!

I used to use the neutrogena oil and mix it with water and sometimes it did clog the pores and cause flaky skin , then went to the emu oil because Peggy Nygard sells it and I got my last show dog from her , but I found it to not be as good as the neutrogena oil in preventing matts . But what I did learn from all of this is that if you put the oil in your hands and rub your hands together you can then put it on the coat with out clogging the pores. So now I use the cheaper brand of the Natural sesame oil, the light body oil made by American Fare sold at Wal-Mart. The coats look great and no flaking as long as I put it on my hands and do not pour it over the skin. I have been doing it this way for several months, no matts and no flaking and I am not wrapping , just the pee pee wrap on the boys.

We all try different things all the time, this just happens to be what I am using now.

Had to rinse and add a conditioner....she was getting mats. Not use to her matting like that! Did not wash out the oil..just a rinse to add conditioner. Doing better now. Her hair is very fine, but there is lots of it. Juju is contributing to the mat factor,and has to be watched like a hawk...DH says that is 'cause Uma tastes like a bird now!!!!

I usually condition and use the oil as a last rinse.

what does everyone shampoo and condition with? I was surprised to see human products mentioned here... alberto vo5 and pantene. Have you found that human products are better for a show coat? I read somewhere else that human products did not have the right ph or something and wondering if those of you who show have found that to be the case or not?

I have been using human shampoos and conditioners since the 70's and love how they work. I was showing back then too. Over all the years I have tried pet products, many recommended by other dog owners, but either they were too harsh (for YT coats) and striped the natural oils from the coats or too mild and the coats did not feel clean enough. I use pantene shampoos and conditioners and sometimes mane and tail conditioner. I have used the VO5 hot oil treatments and they work well. I love the Emu oil and I have also liked equally Neutrogena and Booth's oil from Wal-MArt. I have not tried the Almond oil yet, but will. I also like Herbal Essences (Orchid & Coconut milk) shampoo.

I guess it's just a matter of what works best for what yorkie, same as with humans.

This time I used 1 capfull to 2 cps. warm water,and it is not such a wet oily look. Spread and distributed more evenly. Also used conditioner befor the oil....much better. I did also add a bit to the ends and that did help pull the oil down through the hair. Thanks all!
