I can sense you're really trying to get to the bottom of this and define it carefully. I hope this helps some. Please don't get frustrated. You'll get it.

| What is a show breeder..? Where do you come up with these tricky questions..LOL If you show and breed, I think it makes you a show breeder...no one says you have to win to call yourself a show breeder. I sure see the point of view that if you never win, does it still make you a show breeder..I guess so, but not a very good one. There are many adjectives to describe types of show breeders..not all are equal in that arena. I would like to point something out.. IMO...buying another persons breeding and showing that dog does not make the person any less an exhabitor. A person must learn with something on the end of the lead. If they perfer not to breed one, they have the option to buy one. If I am going to shell out alot of money to show, then it will be mine or do it for a close friend who I admire. I do think it wise to give the breeder all the credit due them in advertizing the wins. I would use the breeders kennel prefix in the name..only fair. Once you breed that dog then the pups are your breeding. If I am not mistaken, Guemart's winner at the Garden is basically Parkside..infact when looking at his advertized pedigrees, no more then one or two dogs even carry his "Guemart" perfix per pedigree. |

| And, show breeders do not necessarily ever set their own foot in the ring. They use trainers and handlers but still are listed as breeder/owner or breeder or owner or whatever.. |

Very good answer for someone who does not show. Let me elaborate some. First a reputable show breeder loves thier dogs and does NOT sell to BYB or mills or anyone to just be used as a breeder. We feel one should get into showing as it helps to learn about the health in pedigree's, what the dogs look like in the pedigree's from other exhibitors, as well as learning the proper structure, movement, type and balance. VS pedigree's that say Sally Sue is the mother and Joe Jones is the father. There are also reputable show breeder's who breed for themselves, not for the glory or to sell puppies for show to make another Champion. And then there are disreputable show breeder's. Once becoming a show breeder you learn the differences and know quality!

| I also do not feel one is a Show BREEDER until they have produced a champion and bred him/her and produced more champions from them. I think the word exhibitor fits those who show but do not breed or those who show and happen to breed but have not yet produced a show dog. I think it would be misleading for anyone who has not produced a show dog to call themselves a show breeder. |

| We all know that anyone who loves this breed and has an interest in showing all shares a common ground. I do not think that anyone is any better than me because they are showing. And when I do, I will not think that anyone is beneath me either. (any one who knows me knows this is my nature, and that I respect everyone who is trying to do their best on any level) Growing up with a family who raised and showed horses I think I am qualified to put in my 2 cents. My sister showed horses that were not always of our family's breedings. She was just as respected (won more) and was a better rider than most of those who showed their own breeding. To me, when a breeder is at a point in their program where they are able to show their own dogs that they have produced, I believe that's when the "true pride" would kick in, but I don't think that they should be put in a different catergory just because they may not be showing a dog of their own breeding at any paticular time. If I start out with a baby that is not of my breeding in the show world I can only hope that the more seasoned "show breeders" will allow me to have the same respect that they did when they started out. Breeders in general all share a common ground because they all share an interest in dogs. There has always been this catergorizing of people and it really bothers me. Lending a helping hand to someone who shares your same interest is what is most important and will gain you the most respect in the long run whether you are showing your own dogs or someone else's. I am very fortunate to have found someone like that. I wouldn't trade a kind soul like that for all the show breeders in the world. |

I have to ask why someone would be offended to be a wanna-be show breeder? Do you not want to be a show breeder? We all started out the same way. I started out wanting to show dogs, a wanna be exhibitor, I succeeded, I wanted to breed show dogs, I succeeded, but if I hadn't shown my dogs, how could I say I succeeded unless they are being shown and finished? We earn are own spurs so to speak. No one earned my success but me. Exactly how it should be.

I agree with you totally, especially on the last two sentences. I never mentioned the word disrespect. I mentioned that I hope to be shown the same respect someday. Heck yeah I'm a wanna be. (at this time) I'm the first to admit it! What I am at this time is a small hobby breeder with a huge passion for yorkshire terriers hoping to show my first dog in the future. Call me wanna be, or whatever you want to. I love yorkies and I have a strong interest in showing now that my daughter is a bit older and not right under my wing at all times, and I believe many of you will see that in the future. For now, I'll leave the show breeding to the show breeders as I make my climb up the mountain. Can't wait to meet you all at the top!
